Why don't you guys sell on gumtree or ebay?

I know ebay take 10% which really sucks but these sites will massively undercut what the laptop is worth.

My early 2011 8GB ram in like new condition should sell on Ebay for around £1100 as it was bought just over 1 year ago for £1800. Mac2sell offer me £460 for it which is pathetic.

Excellent service from sell-your-laptop they got the laptop today and the money is in my bank now and they gave me far more than any other trade-in website.

For anyone who is interested they gave me £569 for a stock 2011 13" Macbook Air with 128gb SSD and 4gb RAM other sites only offered around £430.

Gazelle.com is absolutely reputable.

I agree.

Usually I give my year old laptops away to family members, but everyone's covered so I decided to try Gazelle.

I've done several transactions with them over the last few months. I have neither the time or desire to sell direct to a buyer, so the amount that I may lose as compared to a direct sale is more than worth it to me.

In some cases they've paid me the initial estimated amount. In other cases, they've paid me more, after seeing the pristine condition of the laptop. Frankly I was shocked as I only expected the price that popped up in the initial estimate.

The other nice aspect of using them, is they pay very quickly.

just need to clear things up

Hi guys, I am not going to lie and pretend to be satisfied customer of mac4cash (other companies do this all the time). I work for the company that run mac4cash. Hopefully you will appreciate my comments.

The person who started the moneysavingexpert thread has since been dealt with properly and we met a resolution that satisfied both parties and was in line with the terms and conditions specified before the quote was made. The last comment from the customer confirms this. As stated in our terms we have to test each machine properly so if the result doesn't match the information on the quote we will amend the quote or if it is completely beyond repair we won't buy it . If the quote form fully describes an unfixable machine then we don't quote in the first place to avoid wasting anybodies time. If somebody tells us the machine is in perfect order but we find it to be badly damaged then it will be returned at the customers expense due to misinformation.

We use UK Mail to collect the computers in secure containers provided by us at our cost.

We do not have an automatic system for quotes, each is done individually by a real person. This is how we know our quotes are usually higher than the competition.

We are a registered UK limited company and we refurbish the machines we buy to sell them on another site so we can't pay retail prices in the first instance. Any other similar trade in website will not be paying retail prices either because they would want to sell them on after.

The service is purely for people who want to get money for their old mac quickly. People who want to get the most for it will probably sell on ebay. Our service is a quick and hassle free one, much like mazuma mobile and the like. We don't claim to pay retail but we certainly offer more than cex and our competitors.

Considering we buy hundreds of old apple macs a month through mac4cash I would think that we provide a good service, going forward we will add some incentive for our customers to write an honest review for us somewhere online.

thanks for reading.

An honest mac4cash review

Hi,

I am happy to write an honest review of mac4cash as you will see I have plenty of incentive from my own experience.

On 14 Aug I received my quote for my 2007 macbook pro, a couple of days after I submitted my quote request via their website. Previously in July I submitted a quote for a different machine (2009 macbook pro) but it took approximately a week to receive it (16 July) in which time I had already sold the machine.

I accepted the quote for my 2007 macbook pro on 14 Aug by email and arranged for the machine to be collected on 17 Aug.

On 15 Aug mac4cash called to confirm the collection of my machine on the 17 Aug.

On 17 Aug my machine was collected early in the morning with no problems at all. So far so good.

25 Aug - I had heard nothing at all so far so I emailed mac4cash enquiring about my machine. Their terms and conditions state that "All payments are sent via cheque within 5 working days of receiving your Mac(s) or Apple Device(s) unless in conflict with any other terms." I have never had a response to the email I sent.

31 Aug (2 weeks after collection) - I still had not heard anything so I called mac4cash in the morning as I was getting concerned. I was told that they would speak to the tech guys and call me back very soon. By the late afternoon I had not heard anything so I called mac4cash back only to be told that the guy had gone home early and to call back Monday (3 Sept).

3 Sept - I called mac4cash back only to be told that the guy was on holiday and nobody else could help me. I was told to call back Wednesday (5 Sept).

5 Sept - I called mac4cash in the morning to be told the same thing, that they would speak to the tech guys and call me back very soon. Again by the afternoon I had not been called back so I called again only to be told in an annoying tone that they are testing the machine and they will call me back very soon. There was no explanation or apology for time it had taken so far.

11 Sept (25 days after collection) - I still had not been called back. So I called mac4cash again. I was told that the machine was good and that they will be sending me a cheque by first class post today. They said the reason for the delay was that they got confused with my earlier quote in July but did not admit fault. I then stated therefore the delay was due to an administrative mistake by them which they agreed (rather than my fault that I had submitted two quotes for two different machines one month apart!). I was even questioned if we had ever spoke before although I had always spoken to the same person regarding my machine and given my quotation reference number each time I contacted mac4cash.

18 Sept - I had not received my cheque or had any contact so I called mac4cash again. Only to be told that they did send out the cheque last week by first class post but they will send out another one today, first class post again. I was told that if I received two cheques to give them a call and find out which cheque to cash and which one to throw away. Who is doing the work here?

21 Sept (5 weeks after collection) - I had still not received a cheque. So I called mac4cash again. This was my 8th call with no effort on their part to contact me. Although I had been very calm to this point I clearly demanded to know what is going on and that if this is not resolved I will be taking this further through various means. One of which is to post a review here on mac rumours. They said they would contact me back soon after talking with the director, which they did and I was assured a cheque will be in the post first class today. Although I stated that this would be the third cheque they have sent to me, I was later told due to administrative staffing issues that no cheques has been sent to me previously. Once I had stated what I had been through I was given an apology and reassured that this was a very unusual customer experience. However there was no mention of compensation for the level of service I had received. I then stated the time, costs and effort of this experience for myself and was told that in the future if I wanted to buy a machine from them then there maybe some discount.

In all honesty after this experience I do not want to deal with mac4cash again.

Hopefully my cheque will arrive in the next day or so. I believe that it will this time.

For me, mac4cash has certainly not been a "quick and hassle free way to get money for my old mac". You can draw your own conclusions from the above. All I can say is that in my experience, if there are problems, especially if they are due to mac4cash then do not expect to be kept in contact, they will not call you back when they say they will, they will not reply to your emails. The only way to get a serious response is to state your intentions of taking the matter further.

Looking back, collection of the machine was excellent. Everything after that has been hell and clearly I was being lied to.

I truly do hope that my experience is an exception, however I think you should be aware of what to expect and the level of customer service if things do not go as planned.

Anyone heard of this site? I am wanting to buy a new mac, so am looking to sell my 2006 MacBook Pro and they offered me cash for this, and are wanting to arrange collection of it, but I am wanting to verify they are a legitimate company before I take the plunge.

As with the trade-up source Best Buy and other retailers use, or any of them in general (e.g. Gazelle), they are liable to underprice by $100~$200 or so (depending on year, condition, etc) since they have to put food on their families as well...

If you prefer selling to a middleman and letting such an entity deal with the customer (I've stopped selling directly on ebay, and sellers have ZERO rights or protections despite their claims), I'd take the hit. Seems better to do that than to trust nowadays...

Sorry about your bad experience

I am happy to write an honest review of mac4cash as you will see I have plenty of incentive from my own experience...

I am sorry to hear your experience was quite different from mine (see previous posts) and I hope the issue had been satisfactorily resolved. In all honestly, I am surprised your dealing with Mac4Cash was as bad as it sounded. As far as I know, the company is aware of the existence of this thread and I was kind of expecting them to respond to your complaints in protecting its reputation. Having said that, perhaps they have not been monitoring this thread.

It would be nice to hear back from the original poster if Mac4Cash has finally made the payment or not.

I can only say this to anyone who is considering trading Mac4Cash: contact the company beforehand to give them a heads up and try to be as accurate as possible with the description of the laptop to minimise the possibility of any delay.

Edit: Yes my dealing was with Mac2Cash who provided a great customer service and selling experience. Please not to be confused with Mac4Cash.

The cheque from Mac4Cash arrived on the 22 Sept. I see from your posts that you have been dealing with Mac2Cash, a different company with a very similar name.

As you can see from my experience with mac4cash, it was not the communication from customer to company that was the problem but vice-versa.

To Cohesive

On behalf of Mac4Cash I would like to apologise for your unsatisfactory experience with our service.

Please understand that this is a rare situation and we have already taken steps to ensure that this will not happen to any future customers.

We are currently building a system which will give you an accurate quote immediately and it will allow you to choose a day for delivery immediately also.

Your reference number will be instantly available to follow a link and view the status of your transaction.

Obviously this is useless to you personally now unless you were to sell another device to us! But rest assured we do take all comments on board with a view to improving the customer experience.

Jesus folks, why are people so lazy?

Just sell it to someone locally, gumtree or CL will get you 5 phonecalls in a few days for any apple product and you're sure to get way more than selling on one of these sites.
They priced my 2012 15"MBP with SDD and 8GB RAM at £700.

And my 2010 13" with SSD and 8GB RAM, c2d MBP at 460? :confused::confused::confused:

I'd get £700 MIN for the 13" on gumtree and over 1500 for the 2012 model.

These sites suck.

Has anyone else here had any good experience with Mac2Cash? Only ones on here are people who have never posted before.

Shoddy service by Mac4Cash

Over the years, I have got really good tips from these forums, and how I wish I had look up Mac4Cash before I sent my macbook to them.
They received the machine on the 27th of November, and downgraded it to category D offering me £60. They mentioned a "boot fault which causes a blank screen" which I was not aware of at all. In fact I had successfully formatted the hard drive and reinstalled the OS before sending the machine to them.
They also mentioned a dead battery which I knew about.
I subsequently, on the 30th of November, made them a counter offer for £110, which I got no response to. I called them up twice after this, only to be told that they will check my machine and get back to me. I would have thought that they had already checked it before giving out a quote.
On the 5th of December, I again got the same "status update" message offering me £60.
So I wrote back to them repeating my offer, and saying that I would like to have my machine back if they could only pay £60.
Having not got any reply back, I phoned them on the 11th of December, insisting that I have my machine back, only to be told that their "systems are down" and they will get back to me when they can retrieve the details, and then was almost immediately transferred to somebody else who said that they can only pay me £60. So I told them to send the machine back, and I was happy to pay the £34.99 for shipping.
He said he will back to me an hour to take my credit card details as their payment system was not working.
The hour turned to 24 hours. I just called them up about 15 minutes ago. The girl who answered the phone, took my details and reference number and after checking them told me that she will have to give me a call back as their fire alarm was going off (I could not hear any fire alarms on the phone). So I literarily waited 3-4 minutes and called back, now to be answered by a bloke who said that the guy looking after my case was another line and they will give me a call back. I insisted on holding fearing that nobody will call back and the the other guy came on saying that he had talked to his director and were happy to offer £100. I insisted on the £110 and he agreed.
He has promised that he will send the check today so that I get it in 2 days' time.
Let us see if that happens.
I am really angry at how Mac4Cash have handled the issue, and their communication skills particularly leave a lot wanting.
Having looked at the previous posts, there seems to be a recurring trend, and I am preparing myself for some more struggle to get the promised money.
And yes, while I access these forums regularly as a guest, I have only registered to be able to post my ire at Mac4Cash.

WARNING: Mac2Cash and Mac4Cash

I feel there is a need to clear something up to prevent any potential confusion between the two mac-recycling websites mentioned in this thread.

Mac2Cash and Mac4Cash are two totally different companies.

It would appear that the Mac4Cash has brought about some complaints for some users (post 21 and 40). I chose not to use its service because at the time I felt Mac4Cash was a bit dodgy (post 7 and 12).

As for Mac2Cash, I have dealt with them on two occasions and I did receive the amount that was quoted on their website (post 12 and 20). I have had some very good experiences with Mac2Cash and would not hesitate to use them again (post 22 also entails a positive experience with Mac2Cash).

Please do not confuse the two companies as they seem to treat their customers very differently.

Disclaimer: I am not associated with either company in anyway.

I'm here to say that I do not recommend either sites simply because:

Ebay offers CASH PRICE on MacBooks. When you list an item on Ebay it almost instantly pulls up an "instant cash" offer because some people are listed as instant buyers for certain amounts and Ebay always offers you the highest instant cash amount.

MacBooks, iPhones, iPads and the like, always fetch fast instant cash options.

While there are fees, I would certainly trust Ebay over some third party website that is going to buy your MacBook and..... sell it on Ebay anyway for about 40-100% more than they paid YOU for it.

Mac4cash

Still no cheque.
I called them up several times and today I am told "another cheque" is being sent out.

I wish there is something I can do to help you, you must be very angry with Mac4Cash.

I'm also having an experience similar to cohesive.

4th Dec 2012 - Quote received and confirmed
10th Dec 2012 - MacBook collected with no problem
17th Dec 2012 - No communication from Mac4Cash after MacBook collected. Wondering what was next, I called Mac4Cash, where they told me it was 'approved' and my cheque should be in the post. Soon after my call, I received an email informing that my MacBook 'passed AHT 17/12/2012'.
6th Jan 2013 - Still no word nor cheque. I call them, and still given the 'cheque is in the mail' line. Told that it would be with me by the end of the week.
11th Jan 2013 - Called again as cheque is still not here. Was told that 'cheque is in the mail' again, only this time it 'will be with you early next week'.

Note that on their own website, mac4cash state that once the machine is approved "we send your cheque out the same day. Done!" This should have been the 17th of Dec 2012 then.

I fully agree with cohesive:
1. mac4cash has certainly not been a "quick and hassle free way to get money for my old mac".
2. Apart from the prompt collection of the machine, everything else has been rubbish.

They have implemented a system of updates as indicated by portable, however this is obviously updated manually and not very often. Hence, this is only marginally more useful than the previous experience that cohesive had.

Conclusion based on my experience: if you do decide to sell to mac4cash, be prepared to chase hard for your payment.

Just used these guys to sell a MacBook Pro & an iMac.

Happy with prices quoted as it saved me the hassle of eBay and the fees and any stroppy buyer.

Says 5 working day turn around from point of collection to payment. Took 10 in my case, but they had a couple of guys off. Communication not the best via email, but a quick phone call and you get an update immediately and they were polite and courteous to speak with.

Been paid for them both. Would recommend, but I'd suggest either being patient or chasing them up from the 4th day onwards, every day or every other day.
