So i purchased a surface pro 3 with i7 8gb ram and 512gb ssd at Frys for a killer deal. Been using it for two weeks now and while i really like the machine, one thing that is very annoying is that the fan is on pretty much at all times while doing light tasks like web browsing or watching youtube or watching flash video. If i do anything remotely intensive then it gets very hot and fan is even louder. So, the constatnt fan on and reports of battery deterioration after one year, got me really regretting the purchase and back to Frys it goes.

So here is the question, does macbook air 13 2016 model have the fan on at all times? Does it get hot while just web browsing? Im thinking about picking up the 2016 13 inch model. Thanks.

The Surface Pro 4 has hybrid liquid cooling and that's why it runs cooler and quieter than the Surface Pro 3.

I own the same MacBook Air 2013. I also live on the equator. It is hot here, year round. I have only experienced any fan noise twice since I bought my MBA. Runs quiet all the time.

Suggestion, dump flash for viewing video.

I've been happy with the fan noise on my 2015 11 inch Air. I use it primarily to run Logic Pro X and I do notice the fan go on sometimes, but it isn't very loud. The noise from it is also very mild, not high pitched or anything.

I was used to the wind turbine noise of older Mac laptops when I watched youtube, and the Air is not even close.

I even use a music website that uses flash (which is highly annoying that it still does...) and Logic at the same time and it's still not a problem.

For lighter stuff like running notes and quick web searches it doesn't get hot at all.

MBA 2015 will run the fan from 1200rpm, for normal web browser without "Flash", the fan will not run higher that 2000rpm and you hard to listen the fan running.

If you running Flash or 3D game , the fan will become very noisy as it run at 6500rpm.

if you want completely silent, thing about Macbook 12.

Well, the thread is a bit stale but anyways here is my tip: it's 2016, stop using Flash. And my MacBook Air is quiet while doing most of the "standard" tasks: browsing, watching movies etc.
