Another "me too" on the creaking, left side of machine, worst when holding it by the trackpad corner on the left. No loose screws (or at least perceptibly loose) on the machine.

Was about to send it back for an exchange and it magically went away, and has not been been back for 2 weeks and figured the hassle wasn't worth it if it's not doing it.

My 15 inch mid 2012 Macbook Pro Retina, and it has exactly the same problem, I was never able to fix it though.

So:(
few time later i see that when slightly turn the laptop on one side to the other side, inside of the hinge display something goes back and forth. Most likely something loose.Sent it in appstore for replacement.I think it was a consequence of the squeak.Don't know this is a replacement or will fix it but I think they may have to replace macbook 12?

I've had mine for about five days and the creaking really became noticeable after the first day.

Might be because they are all coming in freshly made and need to "settle" or wear a little? One of the iPhone or iPads came with a yellow tint for the initial round of shipments, I believe. If I recall correctly, it was because the products were so new and the glue had yet to fully harden. Might be the case with the new Macbook. The creaking is annoying. I think the creaking on my unit is in the screen. Will take it to the genius bar if it's still happening at the end of the 2 week return period.

Had the exact same thought, with the amount of adhesive in this that the iFixIt teardown show, I think you're probably spot-on in terms of a full-cure on the resin/adhesive/whatever being something that may affect this.

The creaking is annoying and has no place in a product this premium, def take it back if its still happening: I am still thinking I'll ask for an exchange if it comes back.

mine creaks from the right side absolutely not returning it though. hopefully it goes away but thats what warranty for i suppose

variations:
-some screens have really uneven tints and/or flash lighting /lots of light leak and don't look as nice as others even though all the ones I have had had A027 panel, technically the same panel. this one looks beautiful.
-some keyboards feel off, this one is perfect. and some keys are unstable for some keyboards, as like a one off inconsistency in feel from the other keys, one was recessed more than its neighbors
-some wobble flat on a table, THIS IS A DEAL BREAKER!
-some have jagged edges on the right of the trackpad

counting my blessings here :D

I had a similar problem on my MBP mid-2010, I didn't return it but I should have. That is not normal, so just return it.

Mine creaks but I don't wanna return it cause I applied a whole body skin :| Damn idk what to do... I don't wanna run out of time to return it...
Hoping it goes away..

I also have the same creaking issue, but this happens with both hinges. It does not go away even if I put pressure on both of the speakers.

I had it sent to the Genius bar, then they completely dissasembled it and they could not find out whats wrong as the noise went away.

Two days later, the noise is back and is progressively worse. It is noticeable when you open the lid slowly, when closing the lid - it does not make the creaking noise.

Highly annoying as I have to make another appointment to the apple store to get it looked at again. The price we pay for being first adopters.........

Very true. Anytime you buy a first generation product, all the imperfections still have to be worked out. Hopefully by the second generation, most of the main flaws are fixed.

I just got myself a new Macbook. I don't have the creaking noise, but I have noticed that the hinge is a bit looser than my Macbook Pro. Is this normal, because of the new metal hinge, or should I get a replacement?

I'm also pretty lucky as it sounds to have one that doesn't creak at all. I'd highly advise that you get it replaced at the Genius Bar or get an RMA if you're having that problem. The Hinges are actually Friction Hinges, which to my guess would have a nylon or plastic center piece. I can't imagine that you're getting the noise from there. If it's only when you're opening the lid i'd be willing to bet that there is a loose screw or slight misalignment somewhere on the chassis that rubs when you open it.

I'm not sure about the warranty, but i'd assume it would be voided if you opened your machine up to repair yourself as there is no user replaceable parts inside.

I know this thread is old, but I thought I'd post here instead of making a new thread.

About a month ago I started having this problem on my 12" rMB. I've had the machine for about 5 months and it would creak rather loudly as you opened it up, and once opened if you moved the lid up and down it would creak as well. I did feel it was getting worse as time went by.

I had a similar issue back with my 2010 11" MBA and the Apple Store was able to tighten the bottom plate for me, which to my recollection solved the issue. I wasn't really concerned about it but thought I would bring it in anyway to get it checked.

Expecting to get the plate realigned, I brought it in to the Omotesando Apple Store in Tokyo. I was 1.5 hours late for my appointment due to work, but they took my case and I happened to get the store manager. He was really great, one of the best geniuses I've ever dealt with. He said there was a problem with the hinge, apologized for it, and offered to give me a replacement instead of sending mine off for service.

The next day I brought in my box and accessories and within 5 minutes I left with a brand new 12" rMB, even with a brand new one year warranty.

No creaking in the new one so far and I just wanted to say I'm very pleased with the manager of the Apple Store in Omotesando. He was very kind, understanding, and just awesome and made me remember why I love buying Apple products. I know not all geniuses at the stores are as nice or accommodating, but if you get one like this it really makes any extra "Apple tax" worth it for me. I've had repair experiences with other manufacturers such as Dell, HP, and Lenovo, and none of them have been as good as this.

Anyway, I'm not sure how many people still have this issue, but here's to no more creaking hinges!

I tried with the Apple store employee and they won't get me a replacement, just dreading another week without the laptop, i have lost 2 full weeks due to the repair, going on 3 weeks soon.
