Hi everyone,
I have an interesting (at least for me) case on my hand. I recently got a 2016 rMB 12 with a broken screen from a local seller (came with a receipt and a lot of goodies). Since the machine is out of warranty the Apple store said that they can change the screen for a "humble" amount of 580 euros plus another 80 for labour fees.
That would have been too much for me, so I managed to get a screen from AliExpress for a fraction of the above mentioned price. The screen arrived alright, and I installed it and everything is working properly, except the sleep function when I close the screen. Turns out that the seller sent me a screen replacement for the 2015 model. The problem with this is that the 2016 model has 2 sensors that senses the magnets in the lid, while the 2015 one only has 1, therefore there is only 1 magnet in the lid.
I messaged the seller, but then I realized I don't want to go through the whole send it back - we are going to refund you - re-buy the screen process, even though he was very helpful
I do have a few ideas how to diy it to work:
- Get a hard cover for the laptop and integrate a magnet in the bottom part, so that would trigger the 2nd sensor
- Use a not so strong magnetic tape and attach it in the inside of the laptop, right beneath the sensor.
My question is, would this do any harm to the machine? Because basically the magnet would be triggering the sensor all the time.
Any insights or ideas are greatly appreciated.
PS.: I know the easiest thing would be to send it back, get the refund and reorder, but I do like to tinker.
