Hello Everyone,

I am sure the focus right now is on the updated MacBooks which got refreshed recently, but i've been having some issues with my MacBook Pro Mid 2017 with TB. I am definitely not a heavy user with browsing, emailing and music as my daily activities. The battery currently has 88 cycles and a current max of 4165 out of the 4315 original. I don't get more than 5-6 hours out of it. No constant notifications on the app, done most of the things i could find to save battery, no apps draining the battery on the activity monitor, reset smc, nvram, changed accounts, reinstalled MacOS without importing data from the time machine but nothing changed. 50 minutes of only using the safari with no other app running to watch some youtube or browse and i am already at 85%. Its not the worse but i used to get around 9-10 hours of battery life. This is my first mac so if any of you thinks this is pretty normal then i will understand. The battery was changed last summer due to a faulty keyboard to an official apple store so they had to replace the top case completely and while i was still having issues back then apple support was re assuring me that its probably normal and its my idea that there might be a problem with the battery.

I am sorry for the long post and thank you for the patience to read it.

While you're waiting for someone to say if it's normal (I don't have that model myself), you could check in Activity Monitor to see if any process is using an oddly large amount of power.

Thank you for the reply! Nothing seems odd in the activity monitor except that 50 for safari under 12hr power. Isn't that for the last 12 hours on power though?

I got the solution for you,

I had a 2017 and what I did was turbostop and battery mode it with this app to boost an extra 3-4 hours for me. I wasn't happy with the 2017 it died a lot sooner vs my MacBook Pro 16"

I am currently using the Turbo boost switcher to turn of turbo boost so the hours i am reporting are with turbo boost off which kinda is what the endurance app is doing with some extras which you can do manually.

That is concerning, well you can always get a new battery if your keyboard breaks and your within 4years of buying it -- so it could be that too.

50 for Safari seems high to me. I have four windows open with quite a few tabs and only have about half that. Might be some particular page you've been using.

Support states that it might be the youtube page. Im just checking that and might try safe boot as well.

I have a 2018 MBP, i5 with Touch Bar. I primarily use it plugged in. I was getting 2-4 hour battery life until I found a process running in Activity Monitor that I did not recognize. I looked it up online and it was part of Bitdefender Shield, an always on real-time threat monitoring function. I turned that off (I can still run a scan whenever I choose) and my battery life shot up to 9-10 hours (estimated) when at 100% battery. Good luck.

PS - I am at 99% now and been on battery for 26 minutes. Turn off Bluetooth if not using, dim the screen and close unnecessary programs. I have 4 tabs open in Safari and that is all.

If you want 9-10 hours. Shutdown WiFi just watch movie offline or doing stuff offline then you will have that number. Anything else 6-7 hours is max.

Unfortunately i do not see any apps hogging on the battery except that 25,58 of safari on the 12 hr power column. I also usually require wifi to do things online but when I'm watching movies especially at home i just keep it plugged in for convenience.

Dude. When you buy apple product is buy their design. Overall their product is not much superior then other. Just go buy a external battery $60 buck fix this. Simple.
