My MacBook (13-inch, Mid 2010) has been running fine for several years with no issues and all of a sudden lines have appeared in the left hand side making part of the screen near impossible to use.

I have tried all of the following to try and fix but nothing seems to work.

    - Rest PRAM
    - Rest NVRAM
    - Cleaned out dust from fans
    - Pressed screen to see if it changes (it doesn't)

I can't think of anything else to try, has anyone else experienced and fixed this issues?

Appreciate any help its driving me crazy.

If its a screen fault it won't show on a screenshot. Sounds like the panel has become faulty, looking at a new screen if so.

Can you connect to an external monitor?

Thank you for your replies, I will see if I can hook it up to an external monitor (need to get the converter cable).

Any ideas on what could have caused the panel to become faulty?

Usually transistors that control the pixels fail, sometimes it can be a cascade effect with the ones next to each other. The controller(s) for those row(s) can also fail. This shows as artefacts (dead pixels), bands or lines down the screen.

7 years is a good run to be fair, some get screens with faulty pixels on brand new machines.

The issue was resolved by changing out the screen. I did it myself but I now have the issue of it being way to bright even on the lowest display setting.

I thought I could reduce the brightness further by loading up the display control panel in system preferences but I get this error:

Could not load Displays preference pane.

    Any suggestions?
