Apple just lowered the price of the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display: the starting model with 128GB of storage now costs $1,499, and the step-up model with 256GB of storage and a new, slightly faster 2.6GHz processor is now $1,699.

(from the verge)

Cool! Hopefully they will also adjust the refurbs accordingly (still showing as $1439 at the moment...would expect it will go to $1275).

Stop it with the fairy tales... if they'd do that ( they currently have no reason to do so ), then what would the 13" cMBP cost? The same ?! Riiiiight... if they bring down the Retina to that amount, they'll have to bring almost everything down, otherwise they'd be killing off some other models that surely sell well.

Within hours the Apple store goes down and they add OSX 10.9 sneak preview :D

You mean this apple website?

It just hasn't made it to the store yet...

I don't know which drunk Apple employee wrote that, but let's just wait for it... the 13" rMBP doesn't currently come with a 2.6GHz CPU configuration, so I have no idea what that press statement is blabbering about.

If this is indeed happening... the cMBP line up will be discarded sooner than expected ( by many ).

They bumped the processors too.. read the articles on the interwebs

Which part of "Apple® is making the MacBook Pro® with Retina® display faster and more affordable" is giving you trouble here? Faster = new processor. Affordable = price drop.

Which English words didn't you understand from my post? I'm talking about Apples, you're talking about Kiwis... This price change will surely affect cMBP sales and we might see the cMBP line getting discarded in the weeks / months to come. As for the 2.6GHz CPU, I somehow missed the "new" part at first...

Looks like Air is down too, at least is in the Swedish Apple store. Though it's only down to slightly below the earlier price at the cheapest stores, but soon enough they will go below this (that's the pattern anyway, Swedish Apple store is usually way above the cheapest.

Edit: oops, page not updated, already mentioned.

The rmbp 13 price seemed way too high at launch so I'm glad Apple have reduced it. I happen to think it is still overpriced - let's see if the market agrees!

Anyone notice that if you max out the low end retina 13, you pay $2599 for 768GB flash and a 2.9GHz CPU, but if you max out the high end retina 13, you pay the same $2599 and get a 3.0GHz CPU and 768GB flash?

How about 15-inch model?, I'm still in my 14-day window I would return it and buy it again for less .

This makes sense Apple needs to sell more entry retina models so that people can adopt them easily, more sales = more retina software support.

They did the same with MBA/Plastic MacBook if you remember. They're killing cMBP off completely, justifying it with sales based on somewhat suggestive prices...

Apple.

You don't have to go that far. If you bump SSD on the low-end to 256GB, it costs 1,699 for the 2.5Ghz model, and 2.6Ghz model costs 1,699.... :)

Wow I can now get the rMBP 13" for $1399 due to student pricing. Amazing!

I will wait til June to see if any refurbs can go even lower and to also see what updates Apple will make to the Macbook Air 13. (Haswell, OSX 10.9)
