I just updated my dad's computer to osx mavericks. After the update his macbook got the blue horizontal line on the bottom. It was never there before, just appeared.

whats wrong with it??

Does this happen at startup when the Apple is spinning across a white screen? Try holding OPT at Startup and see if it is there. If it still exists, then you have a hardware issue.

yeah the second the download was done it restarted and the line has been there ever since. So the start button and option at the same time? Just tried it it and didnt work unless i did it wrong

Is it consistent? i.e. does it appear on the grey screen upon starting the machine?

yes, ever since the software was done updating. When it automatically restarted the line was there ever since.

He said option (alt) at startup. There is no start key lol.

Hit the power button and as it bongs (the DURRNNNN) hold down OPT (alt). It is between Control and Command. See if the line is there then. If it isn't then tap enter and it should start. See if the line is there now.

If it is there at the Drive Selector menu after holding OPTION then it is a hardware issue which coincidentally cropped up at the end of the install. Also try zapping the PRAM and resetting the SMC.
