I've spent a week now with my new MacBook 1.2GHz/512GB, the not-pink one, and declare it a nice improvement over the 2015 MacBook. Notably, UI lag is more or less gone thanks to the improved Intel Graphics 515 and overall 10-15% performance improvement over the 1.1GHz/256GB model from last year. Video playback is smoother and somehow "brighter" because there is more CPU left over during playback.

Battery life is much improved. I'm consistently getting three hours more out of this battery. I don't know if my 2015 RMB was a dud or something, but this one is giving me up to 10 hours puttering about on the Internet and word processing, and six hours of video playback.

The extra SSD storage space is nice too.

All in all, this one is a winner. Better in every way than last year's model, and still cool (okay, just warm instead of blazing hot) and silent. It's corrected virtually every niggling issue I've had this year.

I'm worried that the new macbook 13" that's rumored to come out will give better performance with 98% of the portability. I guess it depends how you frame the macbook 12. If you frame it as an iPad with a keyboard, which I did, it's a really nice laptop. But I'm very curious how the 13" will differ. If it's just as thin and light, then I suspect many would add an additional .25 pounds for a larger screen, larger battery, maybe an extra usb c port, etc.
