How big of a difference and does it really worth the upgrade on such a mobile computer. I'm looking for an iPad alternative to use with Chrome, Photoshop, Atom, Terminal

Even the m3 vs i5, I'm not sure.

The m3 in the 2017 is pretty capable. The i5 isn’t much faster. The i7 would be a bit faster for short bursts, but for anything sustained all 3 models perform similarly.

For what you are describing the m3 seems fine.

It’s possible the i7 might feel slightly faster for some Photoshop stuff. Not sure though. I have the m3 myself.
