The reason behind buying the 2nd ACD would be more for when I buy my Mac Pro in Jan/Feb '09 because at that point, I would want 2 ACD's.

Good choice. I am eyeballing dual 23"/24" ACDs with the purchase of my Nehalem Mac Pro to replace my aging G5. I could grab two of them now, but sense I don't need them know I will wait for that hopefully updated ACDs with H-IPS panels and more FW400/FW800 ports for around $1000.

How much difference does H-IPS make over S-IPS that the current Cinema Displays have?

Wikipedia says:

The pros/cons of the H-IPS over the S-IPS:

Pros:
- Much less backlight bleed.
- No purple hue visible at an angle
- Backlight bleed improves looking at an angle
- Less noise or glitter seen on the panel surface (smoother surface)
Cons:
- Still some backlight bleed in areas that are green.
- Viewing angle is narrower.

I personally haven't seen much purple hues in even old ACDs or other S-IPS panels, and the biggest difference I notice is the brightness and clarity.

The new iMacs have H-IPS panels in them, and they are noticeably brighter than the 23" ACD. For some, it may not justify the price, which is higher than the ACDs, but nothing beats having a state of the art panel when color is critical.

I know their are people on these forums that have 2 x 30" displays lol but I couldn't even justify one really.

I do hope the ACD's are updated and that may be a good reason to go for a Macbook Pro (or a Macbook) without an ACD, then if they are updated, I can buy 2 new ones and either sell my current one or keep it as a spare...hmm
