Hello! I’m interested in buying a MacBook 13”, ideally a MacBook Pro 2.4GHz but I want to upgrade to 16Gb RAM. The problem is that I’m traveling to NY next week to buy it but I’m going to be few days, so if I want the RAM upgrade they have to prepare it and finish it after I leave. So it won’t be possible for me to get any MacBook (Pro or Air) with 16Gb RAM. My question is if I should buy the Air or the Pro. I don’t know if the pro is powerful with 8gb RAM and if it will be similar to the Air. I know that MacBook Pro has quad core processor and the Air dual core, but I don’t understand if the performance of the pro will decrease because of the poor ram memory and if it is more convenient to get the Air. I will use the computer for programming some things in python and matlab, and perhaps other languages.

I hope you could help me.
Thanks!

Can you order the 16GB model online for instore pickup next week?

Other option is to call the store and ask them to check and see if they have any 16GB models in stock because stores do (or certainly used to) hold stock of the most common BTO models for walk-in. But they're not on-show.

More cores are good for development purposes right?

Tranks for answering. I don’t usually need to switch between virtual box and other apps. I only need to use Linux but not for demanding programs.

I called to the store but they told me that if I order it now, they would have it for October 22th (I’m leaving before).
The only Mac they have with 16Gb is 15” and I don’t want it because is too big.
I know is better to have more cores, but I don’t actually know if is critical for the tasks I need to perform. At this moment I’m using a Toshiba with 6gb RAM wit Ubuntu and it works well for me. The thing is that I want to buy a computer and don’t change it for 5 or 6 years.

You'd have to call them and find out. They are a very popular and well reputed store. I don't live in NY but have used them for online purchases. I couldn't say what they stock in store. I'd assume they accept cash for items stocked in store.
