I'm trying to install Mac OS X 10.7 on my 2006 Macbook A1181, and for some reason it will not let me boot to the installer on my USB flash drive.

When I hold option on startup, it shows the drive, but it won't let me boot to the drive. It just shows the circle with the cross through it and shuts down after about 30 seconds to a minute.

When I try to install it from my desktop via the drive, it just shows the installer file with the same circle and cross over it and when I try to open it, it tells me it's unable to run on this version of OS X (or something along those lines, can't remember exactly).

It's currently running 10.5, and I know that I need to be on 10.6.8 to upgrade to Lion, but that doesn't explain why I can't boot to the drive. I don't care if the drive gets erased, that's actually what I'd like to do. I want to format the hard drive and do a clean install of 10.7 Lion. I just find it strange that I can't boot to the USB installer, as I've used it at least 3 times already on other A1181 Macbooks.

Hardware requirements aren't an issue (or shouldn't be). 2gb RAM currently.

That machine may not be supported. Bare minimum for OS X 10.7 Lion is Core 2 Duo. Do you have a Core Duo?

List your complete specs. There are many forms of A1181.

Ah, that's exactly what it is. I just checked, and sure enough it's a 1,1 Core Duo. Don't know how I never realized that, or why nobody on the Apple discussions could have pointed out something so obvious!
Looks like I'm going to have to get 10.6.8 on there now.
Thanks!
