    Hi,

I've been happily using my 3-year-old MBA. Recently I started to having weird OSX problems. After one of the security updates, it started to give me kernel panics in every single cold-boot. I had to restart everytime just to able to log into my user account.

Last week it became even more hectic, whenever I unplug it and plug it back to power adapter while the MBA is on and running, I was getting the kernel-panics again and again.

So I formatted my SSD drive, and performed fresh install (SL 10.6.0) on it. Works faster than ever now. No kernel panics at all!

Now here is the dilemma...Do I need (have) to install all the updates or I can live with it as it is.
Right now I do have all the software installed on it that I will need.

What to do, what to do...?

    If it ain't broke.....

If it does what you need and you have checked all the patches then you might be best leave well alone.

However, as soon as a patch comes out that you DO want, you will have to bring it up to date in order to get the latest and greatest. Then you will be applying LOADS of patches.

Also, Apple support (or any other support co.) will just ask you to update before they can do anything useful.
So, you could leave it alone, but you'll probably have to succumb sooner or later!

10.6.8 probably won't break anything and is very advisable. BTW, much software won't work on 10.6.0 (just like you can't do much with 10.5.0 and 10.4.0), because developers don't develop for old versions of an operating system.

I noticed the same thing too. 10.6.8 runs great, but 10.6.3 runs much much much faster ( clean install ).

I'm wondering if I should just install 10.6.3 again.

LionX DP4 is even worse on my MBA haven't installed GM yet, still downloading.

I guess I will stick to 10.6.0 for a while.
