Agree, I use it as my primary desk top replacement with my TBD as well for travel. IMO , using MBA would be overkill, a waste, as a "secondary computer"!

Agree with everything except as much as I would love to get a TBD I won't pay the $999 that Apple wants until it is upgraded...needs newer display technology, newer MBA power connector, TBD2, etc. before I reach into my wallet.

I'm confused whether I should wait for retina macbook air or get the current one.
Any idea when will the new macbook air launch?

Oh, yeah. All of us know ... but our lips are sealed.

Seriously, if you need the MBA now, buy it now. The current iteration is a terrific machine.

Sharing knowledge is carrying ;)
If it'll release by February then I can wait cause I've a powerful Pc at home.
It should not happen like this I buy the macbook this month and 2 months later they release a new one.
I'll regret it then.
And is macbook retina possible considering the effect on battery life.
I know Intel broadwell chips are very battery efficient but still handling a retina on macbook Seema difficult.
What are your opinions?

I've been arguing for the past year that Apple isn't stupid enough to discard the current MBA. It's still selling well, and the whole point of an extremely portable, battery-conserving machine is lost by adding a retina screen.

You trade off limited processing power and battery life just to deliver a "better" user experience. If I want the "better" user experience, I ought to buy a retina MacBook Pro and be done with it.

The point of the Air is portability and longevity. I'm unsure the next tier of processors will help much with either one. I can see Apple launching a new 12" product that incorporates a retina screen, eventually replacing the 13" "classic" MacBook Pro with something that's cheaper, more efficient and better suited to the legions of folks who use the classic machines.

I doubt very seriously that the 11" and 13" MacBook Airs will change much over the next several months.

You make a very sound argument. I've been kicking around purchasing a new MBA but obviously the talk of a retina machine is intriguing. A 12 retina MBA would undoubtedly cannibalize the MBP 13. I guess when you look at how Apple has gone retina just about everywhere else, one would wonder is the MBA next. But leaving it without does really distinguish it from the MBP. Perhaps with the new processor the goal is a MBA that last 15 hrs

I run a MBA 11 (2012, i7, 8G) as a primary machine. I upgraded to a Transcend 520 SSD (9xx Gig) to have enough room to not carry an external drive.

I travel a lot for business, so the 11" MBA is wonderful. Small enough to be TSA pre-approved to leave in a bag regardless of which airport line.

My only wish is that it had more battery life.
