My Macbook air 15 inch running Ventura is increasing its charging cycle count WITHOUT being plugged in or charged in any way. I use sparingly so a charge can last me a few days. I have noticed that ocassionally the charge cycle increasing WITHOUT being plugged in at all. Menumeters is also saying that the last charge is say, 3 hrs ago when that is clearly NOT the case and the laptop has not been charged for about 24 hours.

Whats going on?

First of all, I don’t actually know the answer, but two things come to mind.

Do you have the laptop attached to any USB-C devices? (Very unlikely, but I am wondering if these could charge or trick the system into thinking it’s being charged)

Also, it is possible that the cycle counter is triggered by discharge, rather than charge. For practical purposes it would produce the same results.

I don’t know Menumeters and I would rely on official stats.

I wouldn't trust a third party tool. What's Apple's actual count? Remember, the battery should last for 1,000 cycles.

Small update - Using System Information I had a 28 cycle count. I charged overnight (from 11%) to 100% and the cycle count is STILL 28. I was always under the impression that the cycle count went up AFTER a charge. I will lte you know what the count is when it goes back down to 10%
