Joking aside this would be hilarious
Im not kidding but it does work. Just apply a very small amount of vaseline and it will last a long time before it has to be reapplied. I would think any type of grease would work just as well.

Vaseline-gate
Wonder how long it lasts lolYup it 100% works. Tried and tested.
Thanks for sharing. I didn’t know this was a thing on the MBP’s. Thought it was just on the airs.I was just in the store today checking out the new M4 MBP 14"s. The silver one had a smooth trackpad. The Space Black one, not so much! Coarse and sticky under the finger, even making my finger skip and jump. I really do hope they haven't regressed on this in the latest models. Anyone else have experience?

Hey, does this still work as well? Have you tried anything else? I'm dealing with a rough trackpad issue. After cleaning it with 75% isopropyl alcohol - it got better at first, but when I cleaned it again, it became rough and now no amount of cleaning makes it smooth anymore. I'm already considering replacing the trackpad 🤷🏻♂️Im not kidding but it does work. Just apply a very small amount of vaseline and it will last a long time before it has to be reapplied. It works a bit, but I found it didn’t help as much as I thought. It’s not worth doing imo but you can try. What model of MacBook and year do you have?Hey, does this still work as well? I also have the M3 Air 15. Will you change it through the Apple Store? Did you get a price for doing that? I’m considering the sameAir 15, M3, 2024. If so, I'm going to change it, it's really irritating
No, there are no Apple Stores in my place. But here i found that price of trackpad =~100$ and the repair is about 50$. I hope there is a donor trackpadI also have the M3 Air 15. Will you change it through the Apple Store? Did you get a price for doing that? I’m considering the same

Now that the M4 Macbook Air's are out I'm curious to see if this issue with the coarse/sticky trackpad persists.
Even though the explanation makes sense and does not surprise me at all or my expectations it’s still disappointing when you can tell a difference and get a less than desirable unit.Apple and other computer/device manufacturers are always going to use parts from multiple suppliers to keep up with mass volume (and for cost leverage), and this of course causes most of these variances. This is true for the trackpads, display panels, keyboards, and so on. While each OEM tries to meet Apple's specifications, there will be variances.
Ever notice how the keyboard on one MacBook can feel tight and springy while another from the same product line can feel a bit less tight or slightly mushy? Or how the display on one MacBook can lean more green and dingy while another can have a warmer or pinker hue? Same holds true for the trackpad, and in this case, the glass texture.
There are also variances with the same parts within the same OEM. Which parts you get as well as the overall build quality will vary from one MacBook to the next even within the same product line.
I've been playing the laptop lottery game with both Macs and PCs for years so I am used to it. I decide which components mean the most to me (the display and keyboard) and swap out (exchange) if they are not up to my standards. Apple is a bit more consistent in both parts and build quality than others (in my experience), but never expect one MacBook to be identical to the next.
