Just got screwed by Apple! :(
There was a dead pixel on my Samsung lcd (macbook air 13" 2012) and the warranty was running out within 30days so I decided to get it repaired/changed. Finally when I got back my Air, they swtiched the samsung with the LG!!!! Noo. For someone who is a graphics freak, I had adored that beautiful contrast/color of Samsung LCD and then to this washed out LG is such an AWFUL experience. Currently on the macrumor color profile but its slightly too dark for me, even though I tried expert mode - I can never get it right myself.

I think I am gonna sell this one soon and grab a rMBP 13" once haswell arrives.

Would Apple change my screen? or offer a replacement as I had a samsung display before??

You tell your self to be a gfx freak and you are trying to "calibrate" your dsplay by hand? Wow, get a hardware calibrator!

Hey folks, my first ever macbook came in today thanks to a delay from UPS. I got the 13" MBA.

I did the terminal thing and it has an LP in front of the model so it is indeed an LG display.

It still looks great to me and I've been browsing and using it all day today, do I really need a custom calibration profile?

Only you can judge that. It's a very easy process, and it isn't permanent. You can switch between default and custom profile and decide for yourself.

Oh well the screen looks good to me so looks like I'll just keep the default.

After initially using a profile for my samsung screen, I switched back to default as well.
I guess LG and Samsung hire the best engineers of the world. They probably know what they're doing.

I had macbook air with Samsung display but returned it due to faulty spacebar. I was not consent with the quality of display - it had yellowish/reddish whites and viewing angles were horrible. It was replaced with MBA with LG - actually I like LG better, because of whiter whites and realistic colors. This profile helped me improve contrast and now i'm completely satisfied with what i have.
i don't say Samsung is bad, but i guess, it depends not only on manufacturer, but also on a specific display - quality of displays in various shipments may vary.
