Your temps are normal for the workload you're running.

it is still scary, remembering 105°C is max temp. i was hoping like 80°C ++

You can use a program like smcFanControl to manually increase your fan speed and cool your computer down if you don't like the CPU temps.

i was playing on Windows, not native OSX. and the fan was loud as hell, i am sure it was 6500 rpm fanspeed.

Hey guys, what about Far Cry 4?

I don't mind lowest res and lowest graphic settings, but do you think it's gonna work? I have the i7 processor.

Haven't tried 4 (yet), but Far Cry 3 ran fairly well on my 13" i7/8GB, I think in 1280x800 resolution with details on medium.

Well, I'm trying FC4 but it's lagging like hell (I would say 5-20 fps) with all low settings and low/medium resolution (I'm trying lots of different combinations)...
I think we also need an Intel HD graphics update for this.

don't torture yourself and your mba and get a ps4 for 400 bucks or less instead.

Yep, that's true but right now I don't have that opportunity and I also have a PS3 in the living room

I was just trying out the game to see the storyline and the graphics, even though it's a bad experience on the Air..

Don't know if I should buy or not the PS3 version of the game, anyone here have it?
Far Cry 3 looked great there but we have a good difference against a PC with DirectX11!

So I've only had this computer for a over a month and I just bought Grid 2 for it. I run on low-medium settings and the minimum FPS is 24 when you run the games benchmark test. I find it pretty impressive.

BUT.... Every time I crash into a wall or a car the screen flickers these green/purple artifacts. I KNOW its not part of the game. Is it the graphics chip being over used? I know my mac is the minimum recommended settings (even though the game plays very smooth for it) Am I killing the computer?

I've noticed the fan doesn't turn on as often as it does when I play another game of similar graphics. Although Grid 2 doesn't cause the computer to get as hot either.

2014 macbook air, i7 8GB 256GB
world of warcraft runs very well, low to med settings on native res. '/console maxfps 30' and the fans never even turn on, stays very cool.

hearthstone also runs with no hiccups

First of all, if you see graphics artifacts only in certain situations, that almost certainly means there's a bug in the game and not that the graphics chip (logic) is overheating. If it were overheating, you'd see artifacts in a bunch of different circumstances.

Second, your fan never turns on or off. The fan is always running, usually at a low speed that makes it almost inaudible. If you hear the fan, it's because it's spinning faster than usual, not because it turned on.

Thanks for the input. And yea, I knew that about the fan, just worded it poorly.

I've tried Endless Legend on my MBA, with the expectation that it won't punish the system too much... bit of a mistake. Just in the menu the system temp jumps to 102c, despite pre-cooling the system (using fan control at around 4-5k RMP to cool down the system slightly before playing)

It put me off playing incase it pushed temps even higher.

Sadly the Endless games are not particularly well optimised for OS X, i normally enjoy playing them on my gaming desktop.

Temps that high would concern me too although I don't think they can harm the machine. Intel chips in particular will clock down or just stop before they overheat.

I just got mafia 2 and it runs great (occasional hiccup) at medium settings. I hooked it up to my HD TV at full res and played just as well. Pretty impressed.

Im wondering if this games will run on my mba early 2014:
Xcom enemy unkown
Max payne 1 &2
Civilization v
Not on windows but on yosemite 10.10.1
Tell the fps, settings and heat
Thx for help :)

Civilization v

Unplayable on a Macbook. Both the native Mac and Windows versions overheat even desktop gaming rigs. It's annoying and stupid on a desktop but unbearable on a Macbook. With no way to limit the FPS uselessly crunched by the GPU and poorly written code my 13" rMBP with fans running at max RPM reaches 100°C easily. I'm not gonna torture it like that, no matter what Intel and Apple say. A hundred degrees on a GPU is way too much. 80°C is hot but OK, it's a laptop.

Guys i have a problem. I played today Hearthston on my mac on yosemite. I turned on high settings, and the noise was unacceptable! Also the laptop went full fk*** radiator mode. What is going on? Is it normal that laptop is so heat? I also experienced this scannig my mac.
WTF is wrong with my laptop?
What are good programs to scan macbook health, temp etc?
Thx

Uhh, "what is going on"? When the Mac gets hot it needs to spin the fan faster to cool it off and this makes more noise. Did you not know this?

I know but is it normal? After 5 min of hearthstone its hot as *******. Do you have same experiences?
The heat is only over the keyboard

I have no idea what that game is but it doesn't surprise me that games are CPU/GPU intensive.

Maybe turn the settings down?

I also have no idea what you mean by "the heat is only over the keyboard" but if you mean that the area near the keyboard towards the screen hinge is hot, then yes, that's normal. That's where the heatsink and fan are.

Place when the bottom part of computer(keyboard) connects with the screen. Its very hot :/
