Has anyone noticed the poor camera quality? Mine is blurry, dramatically bad. My old 2013 Air was way better camera wise, even in bad light conditions.

Yes it was quite blurry when I used it yesterday for FaceTime, but I can't objectively compare with another machine now (or whether it was lightning conditions, or network conditions that affected it).

I can confirm, the camera is crap. It doesn't bother me too much as I won't really use it (FaceTime on iPhone always) but yeah, it ain't good.

The strange thing is they are marketing this as a 720p HD camera, but it doesn’t look any different than the old fuzzy much-maligned 480p MBA camera.

Received my BTO 2018 retina MBA today (11/28/2018).
Returning to Apple tomorrow. Front camera is complete crap.
As a physician, I often video conference patients and the front camera on the new Airs are an embarrassment.
[doublepost=1543455449][/doublepost]Yep, read this thread before I got on MacRumors.
I was hoping my Air's crap camera was an isolated occurrence and I would just pick up another one. Nope.
Apple dropped the ball.

Have the same issue with the camera, asked friend about it (he has 2018 Pro) and he said that his camera is also crap (didn't test it tough). I hope there will be a solution to this mess because I really like my new machine but I think this is unacceptable. Apple can't mislead people in saying this is a HD camera when in reality it's comparable to VGA cameras that were in laptops that were made in year 2000.

Voiced my disappointment in the feedback link someone provided in this thread or in Apple one, I think everyone that has this machine has to do it honestly....

And here's the link: https://www.apple.com/feedback/macbookair.html

Its no secret that the front camera on the Apple laptops is garbage. Apple should be ashamed of itself for using such old tech...but they profit so they don't care.

If you need a better camera in the front, consider the new iPad of a Windows laptop.

It should bother everyone. If Apple believes that most will accept then there is not incentive to improve.

Increased price, crap keyboard, sub-par retina display, crap front camera... Yep, Apple totally lost it. And to think I waited over 6 years for this new MacBook Air. I'm just glad I didn't buy one.

i hear yees! my itouch photos from 2012 are clearer, crisper and lifelike compared to the one i take nowadays. obviously apple did something software-wise to defunk older device not to perform as they did when purchased, or i'm "paranoid" and should buy a new itouch every year and be a nice mind-controlled apple lab rat.

Yea. Noticed right away how grainy. Specs say same 720p but parts must be poor quality. MBA built/designed for maximum profit.

Have a little compassion for Christ sake. Apple just lost their trillionare status this week

Is it the image you see on the screen is crap or is it the same for a recipient in FaceTime? I know that would sound counter-intuitive but I have see this happen with a previous MBP I had. On my screen my own image looked fuzzy, but was clear and appeared in HD to the person the other end.

Never thought about that. Just going by my view.

Yep I returned the MacBook Air 2018 after only two days. The camera is very 2004. The 2018 MacBook Pro is much better all round and camera while not as good as it should be is noticeablely better

Sounds like my 12” MacBook’s camera. Utter garbage, at least in low light.

I only use the FaceTime camera on my iPhone.

IIRC, the 2017 MacBook Pro has a better camera. If accurate, that is yet another notch on the Pro’s belt over the Air. I haven’t compared the Air and Pro’s cameras side by side though.

First Zoom call today and the camera really is poor in terms of quality. Is it a hardware or software issue though?

I know the camera on the MBP is better, but I don’t want or need another MBP to be honest.

Would think hardware. Also shouldn’t be unknown to Apple what it looks like. Another cost decision that the consumers didn’t benefit from.
