For instance, sometimes Reddit will freeze and stutter when scrolling. This happens on other websites too. Could it have something to do with 8GB of RAM, or would it be CPU based? I didn't notice this issue on the 16" MacBook Pro.

My 2018 MacBook Air is a dual-processor model and it struggles with just about everything.

It has something to do with the optimization of the page. Reddit sometimes stutter with my i7 2020 air too but won't happen in other pages..

I get this with Youtube as well. Especially going to full screen and back. Stutters like mad. I have a 2019 model.

Well there is a huge difference in CPU from the dual-core i3 in the 2020 MBA and the 6-core i7 in the 2019 MBP 16". However the new Reddit site is extremely poorly made (I use the classic yet dated looking Reddit site which has no issues in performance). It's most likely due to the CPU not the GPU, as the Iris Pro on the MBA is actually more powerful then the Iris Plus in the MBP (as long as its not using the dGPU)

It's a reddit issue. The new design with endless scrolling is terrible across all my machines. You can change your preferences to show old.reddit.com to fix this.

I have the 2018 air and it's doing just fine. I do have an ad blocking extension for safari, so that's probably helping.

I have no issues of that kind on my new Air 2019. It's a great and so far silent machine. The only issue is the OS which has bugs and I feel it could be much faster. My other Windows PC with cheap SATA SSD performs better.

The only issue I have with my 2020 is YouTube in safari. Videos usually don’t load. I use Firefox just for YouTube

Happy to hear I’m not the only one with this problem.

I’m having a lot of issues with websites and with jerky animations, in general, with my MBA i7/16/256. In particular, the occasionally jerky mission control animations are very frustrating for an expensive new machine.

What’s strange is that when the frames drop during animations, the GPU and processor aren’t spiking. It’s probably software, but it’s also possible that the graphics performance is not able to keep with these animations every now and then due to the thermal constraints.

I upgraded to the 10.15.6 beta and it’s the same. Resetting the SMC helped for a day but it came back. Apple may fix this with an update, but I don’t want to miss the return window hoping for that.

I decided to return The MBA because of this issue. I decided to get an i7/16/512 10th gen MBP hoping that the higher voltage processor is able to handle whatever spikes are happening and give me smoother performance. It will be here tomorrow.

I’ll be sure to report back!

So far have not noticed any issues with WEB sites on my base model, which I have had for close to 2 month now.

Seems to fit here:

Reporting back after receiving my i7/16/512 MBP. This thing is way faster than my i7/16/256 MBA with everything - not just sustained load. In particular, all of the animations are smooth as butter 100% of the time. My MBA would drop frames maybe 30% of the time. My guess is the graphics processor in the MBA isn’t boosting - maybe thermal or power constraints but all speculation.

Either way, MBP fixed all the laggy animations I saw with the air.

I have the same computer as you and it handles everything I throw at it with no lag issues at all. It's zippy as hell. Odd why yours isn't.

Something I wrote a while back. Another member was suffering from similar issues regarding browsing websites on Apple computers. They had a MacBook Pro that was brought to its knees by Reddit. I hope computers with Apple's own silicon are able to finally browse websites properly..

it’s a Reddit problem. Not a Mac problem
