I recently purchased a 2019 base model macbook air from the refurbished section, thinking it was a MBA 2020; currently thanks to a kind fellow MacRumours user, I am convinced to keep the 2019 from his review comparing the 2020 models with the 2019.

I save 313 dollars if I decide to keep this, and also with the new rumours about the ARM macbook’s some stating them to come out early as next year, I am inclined to keep this 2019 MBA, although I would like to hear the public’s opinion.

EDIT: This post is really helpful https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...9-vs-2020-i5-vs-2020-i3-macbook-airs.2235413/

I'd go for the 2020 if only for the keyboard, which was switched to the scissor type used in the MacBook Pros, away from the "butterfly" keyboard that created so many problems Apple instituted a four year repair program on them.

I tried a refurbished 2019 MBA with 16 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD; I sent it back because I couldn't deal with the keyboard. I wound up with a 2020 13" MBP with 16 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD. And MUCH better graphics, four USB-C ports, etc.

Well, I mean I have 15 days I’ll try to get used to, to the keyboard, and yes I know how unreliable the butterfly keyboard is, but not planning to use this more than 1-2 unless because I’m waiting for the ARM as well.

But thanks!

I'd still go for the 2020 - as long as it's the quad core 1.1 i5. Graphics are noticeably better, and 4 cores vs 2. That'd be worth the money to me - I understand completely if it is not to you.

Thank, I understand your point, but mannn I’m already worried about the 313 dollars, haha. But this should last me a good 1 or 2 years.

In US refurb 128GB 2019 Air is $789, and 256gb 2020 Air i3 is $1000. So $220 US dollar difference. No-brainer to get Air 2020, since it has 256gb of SSD and DDR4 RAM and better keyboard.

Okay, thank you so much for the feedback. I do indeed have 15 days to try the butterfly, as I placed the order for it 2 day ago now, and when I realized, it was too late to cancel... Sooo wish me luck I guess!

Or you could keep it. If you live in Canada, then Apple store customer service should be good in your country. Since your keyboard should be covered for 4 years, just hold on to your Air. And if your keyboard fails 3 times then Apple will give you a free Air 2020 replacement.

Yeah, that’s a good reason to consider although, I wonder if they’d do it if I recently just bought the Air, anyway I did know about the program, but didn’t think about them replacing my air much.

That’s a really good point, thanks for your help; as I can’t just outright afford the newer model, sooo this just also gives me another layer of happiness, I guess; but during this pandemic I wouldn’t wanna go to my best buy (the apple shop is closed), and I’m honestly not sure if mine is a apple service repair whatever.
