For reasons I have to use an LTE router when I move next week. The iMac (Big Sur) can connect to the internet fine when using the LTE router as well as the iPad. Only my MacBook Air (Sonoma) tells me that it is not connected to the internet.

System Settings says that the Wifi connection is okay:

But when I try to open anything in a browser I get an error message "You are not connected to the internet":

What can I do to fix this problem?

I have restarted the computer. Both the 2.4 and the 5 Ghz network show the same problem.

I'm not using private relay.

I've tried the Goggle DNS servers. But there was no change.

Your MacBook Air seems to have connected to what is likely a default gateway IP for the router :


is the router something you have admin access to ?; what IP do the iMac & iPad show in the same area as your last screenshot ?.

I'd try forgetting the network, toggling wifi off/on & see if there's any change.

If you do have admin access - is it possible to visit 192.168.2.112 in a browser on the MBA ?.
 
Please post a screenshot of the Big Sur iMac showing its assigned IP address and router address.


You should be able to ping the router address and any other machines on the same network, and have it respond. The ping should also work when sent to public IP addresses like 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8.

An example ping command in a Terminal window:

ping -c 5  1.1.1.1
This will send 5 pings to the IP address 1.1.1.1, and report on whether there were replies, and the time it took for the reply. You can put any other address in place of 1.1.1.1, for example, the router:

ping -c 5  192.168.0.1
 
I've solved the problem. The computer was set to DHCP with manual IP address. As soon as I switched to DHCP I was able to connect to the internet.
