i put it to max resoltuoin 2.5k

now text in macos apps like settings are small

on 'display presets'
when you hover over them, they show a resolution
this implies that the resolution would change if you pick those

is that what these 'display presets' do?

1st says 'larger text
2nd says nothing
3erd 'default'
4th 'more space'

very confusing wording/labels

when i choose one of these presets
and right click to display all res
the list shows that the res has changed

so whats the point of max resolutoin if its making text so small to read?

When you change settings in Displays, you aren’t really changing the resolution. That is set by the physical screen. What you are changing is the size of the UI elements like the text. You can choose to have them default size, larger, or smaller (for more space).

If you want to see the details (which might be more confusing) right-click on those size icons and choose “Show list”. This will show the “resolutions” that it is using at those sizes. Some of them make the UI look like a pre-school book. Others make the text tiny.

There is also a button to show all resolutions. Most of those “resolutions” are all using the full number of pixels on the display but are resizing the UI. There are a few “low resolution” options that acutally do use a lower resolution. Probably stay away from them.

For the most part you probably want either default or more space but if you want something in between that list will give you some options.
