hey! so I’m a uni student a final year business student, and I’m hoping to buy a MacBook Air for the lightness.

So here are the reasons for my usage:
- uni work (multi tasking with docs / ppt / web browsing multiple tabs and etc)
- casual streaming on Netflix and YouTube
- probably editing on imovie
that’s about it I guess

I’m also hoping to be a masters student in the future and the workload for masters is gonna be twice as much so I want it to last me a long time

will the MacBook Air M1 2020, 7 core gpu 16gb ram be suffice? i don’t know the difference with the gpu as I’m not comp sci student or someone into specs but I’d want a higher ram as that’s something you can’t change afterwards I’m not fussy about storage so 256gb plus external hard drive would be enough anyways. So pls let me know if my usage is enough for 16gb. I’d want the laptop to last me 5+ years at least since the laptop itself is expensive enough

bit of background is im transferring from a surface pro 6 i5 and that lasted me for about 2 years ??

I already have an iPad and an iPhone so a MacBook is great due to one system being synchronous

Kute, Look at this video. Dave does a real good job explaining ram usage and needs.
I believe you could save the $200 dollars for books, in lieu of a ram upgrade. The M1 Mac Air
at the base configuration does the trick. Good Luck

You can probably get by with the base model (8gb, 7c gpu, 256gb) for what you’re planning on using it for. If you want to keep it for a while then yeah 16gb ram would be good provide a nice cushion.

Yes it will be very fine for it.
Especially M1 is very good for movie editing (with imovie or Final Cut Pro).
It is extremely impressive for everyday office / uni work.
