It may not be dead at all. Did you follow the suggestion of disconnecting the battery, leave it for an hour, connect the charger, don't touch any keys, and see if it turns on by itself?
[doublepost=1530604939][/doublepost]That I did not do, but as I said I took to Apple service. It is possible the guy there would not know these things? In any case I will try and let you know. To make clear, what happens is that it shows the interrogation mark on the screen and it does not go forward. If we try to turn it on manually, it does not find the OS.

Apple is not infallible. I have had two situations where they said it was completely dead and needed a logic board replacement.

I took them home and got them to boot. One involved a bad keyboard which was exposed to a bit of water. They keyboard was replaced and it's been working for months.

The second machine came back to life after disconnecting the keyboard and battery for a few hours. I left the battery and keyboard disconnected, connected the charger and it turned on by itself. The fans were running at full speed but the machine did boot and worked with an external keyboard. I reconnected the keyboard and battery, did an SMC reset, and it's been fine too.
