Hi everyone,

Have anyone experienced any screen brightness delay issues.
When I wake my Macbook Air M1 from sleep sometimes the internal screen brightness won’t turn up to the normal brightness. It will instead start at the lowest brightness setting and then all of sudden do a jump to the normal brightness.

Ways to reproduce the steps: Press ESC on the lock screen to make the screen sleep, tap or swipe to the right on the touchpad to wake the screen and the bug usually happens 20% of the time.

I think this most likely is a software bug, since the screen otherwise reacts correctly to brightness manipulation done manually all the time, but I just wanted to hear out if anyone can reproduce the issue or has experienced the same?

It's odd and I sympathise but I have a sort of opposite problem.
When waking from sleep it's fine. The brightness setting is where I left it and the screen lights normally.
However, if I reboot, the screen brightness somehow changes to full brightness. Every time.
M1 MBA. All the usual suspects are disabled (dim the screen, auto brightness, true tone etc)

I have a similar problem with an M1 MBA - If I am watching a movie the screen brightness will go down with no obvious cause.
I am running with charger plugged in, so battery shouldn't be the problem.
Tried killing auto-brightness, doesn't change anything.
I've gone through the System Preferences over and over and have not found anything.
slightly older MBPr with same version of BigSur does not have the issue.

FWIW, my 2020 m1 macbook air does this too - though I'm not sure it's *every* time I reboot - but I'll notice the display is at full brightness and have to bring it down to like 50% which is where it is whenever I shut the machine down...
But Thanks for mentioning it - because I thought it was just my macbook air.

I confirm this issue. It's exactly as you described. It only happens when waking from sleep, not at reboot.
I haven't gone through the motions of trying to reproduce it, because it doesn't really bother me. Brightness will go up after very few seconds automatically or because I am frantically hitting some keys.
But, yes, it would be nice if this could be resolved in a future software update.
