My MBA has be very reliable up until the last 3 months or so. Then the screen started going black occasionally for a second or 2 before going back to normal viewng. I'm worried it may quit completely as it's my daily user. I'm wondering if there's any history of this and can it be fixed for a reasonable price.

While I can afford to replace it, it does all I need in a laptop. My biggest worry the security of my data IF the screen goes black and doesn't come back. I would then have no ability to copy my data, not delete it before taking it to a shop for repair.

Was the machine dropped out exposed to liquids? Are the hinges tight?

The SSD used in the mid-2013 air can be used in any air from mid-2013 to 2017 and any Macbook Pro from late-2013 to 2015.

That’s why we do backups before a computer dies;)

Beside of that if it’s not the gpu you can hook it up to an external monitor.

Hinges are tight. No liquids. Well, there may have been a few minor liquid drops. Yes, the MBA has slid off the coach a couple of times on to soft carpet.
