I just purchased the Macbook Air rev 2 120gb HD model. I it has the problems with the lines on the screen. It flickers on the one test image from the forums, but does not appear to flicker during normal usage. Also, it has a sort of CPU buzzing comming from the left side of the keyboard. It gets worse then I move the trackpad.

I was thinking of calling support on this, but I don't want to end up getting the same screen with the same problems. I was wondering if anyone has gotten any of this fixed. Is there some way that I can direct support so that they put in the correct model of screen?

My current info for the screen is:

    P .00 6
    B133EW03 V0
    Color LCD
    Maker 610
    9C9A

What is the model of the good screen? Has anyone had the flickering problem resolved? If so, what part was replaced? What about the buzzing?

I heard the buzzing may be the fan controller, flickering the screen inverter.

Am I correct on this? I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

    Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5G77 Safari/525.20)

I'm sorry that this has happened to you.
I'm one of the fortunate ones whose gotten a perfect MBA.
I don't have much advice for you, but I would give a ring to Apple support or visit your nearest Apple store.
I wish the best of luck to you though!

I have the same problems as the OP. I just got a replacement and I have the exact same problems again. I'm not sure what to do because I don't want to keep going through the hassle of replacing it. I just want to start using it and not think about it and be happy. The good thing is that these problems are very minor and are actually hard to notice....but they still bother me knowing that they are there.

It's unfortunate that you have to be lucky to get a good one. I personally haven't seen a good one yet. All the ones at the Apple store had the lines and now my second one has lines as well. It almost seems like the ones that don't have lines are the anomaly and the lines are the norm.

Anyways is there anyone here that went through this and now has finally found a good one?

BTW, the buzzing, lines and flickering is EXACTLY the same in both MBAs that I have had which makes me think this is pretty normal in Rev Bs.

If you have a perfect one, please let me know the information for the screen from display preferences and the terminal.

    The terminal command is: ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

Has anybody gotten any of these problems fixed?

I find it highly doubtful anyone has a perfect machine.

The lines exist on more machines than the Macbook Air.

That static crackle noise you're hearing is the CPU.

Mine has all of the problems you've posted. I'd love to give Apple a piece of my mind, but in the end, I'm just going to end up with a machine that has the exact same problem. Over and over again.

Why? Because Apple doesn't recognize these issues as being problems. They call them features, and will never fix them.

    Kloan, don't bother.

It's Apple's lost since you're going to spend your $$ on something else.

If you use the search function of the board you will find out, that there are already a couple of (closed) threads about this topic.

At least 2 threads have each over 15.000 views and a couple of hundred answers, but unfortunetly, no solution.

Interestingly enough I saw a perfect 1.6 HDD Rev B today at a Star bucks. Didn't look with a magnifying glass but I have seen 6 others with lines so I know what to look for. And if they are that discreet or hard to see I dont have a problem and I can go ahead and order one!:D

    Lines gone?

I applied the latest update and can't see lines anymore (I used to see faint lines). Don't know whether it's real or not, but it's nice to feel they're gone. Also couldn't see flickering anymore. Did I just get used to it?

I can't really see the lines on mine unless I get super super close (or at least what I think might be the lines)

From what I make of it, the B133EW03 V2 model screen is the least affected by these lines. Is there anyone with the V2 screen that does have lines?

As for the buzzing, does everyones macbook air do this as well. I remember seeing another post where someone said that they got a fan controller replaced, and that solved the problem.

I don't understand why there is always someone saying to close down this thread or that. I check this Macbook Air forum everyday, but there are only a few new posts in total. What is the point of trying to stop people from discussing problems? Isn't that the point of these forums in the first place?

If there are no ongoing threads on this subject, a new one SHOULD be made. I would gladly post on another thread about this subject, but even checking the most recent 6 or so pages of threads, there are none really.

Please, lets calmly and productively discuss these issues until they are fixed.

I will be sending my Macbook Air in for repairs next week. I will let everyone know what happens.

If you believe that the V2 is a good screen, then maybe you should ask for it and let us know :)

Well, I sent in my Macbook Air for repairs and got it back a few days ago. They didn't fix anything on it. On the repairs explanation, they said that flickering was just a characteristic of this screen. I find that response to be a bit absurd. They didn't even comment on the lines issue at all. Also, they said that they couldn't hear any CPU whine.

I am going to call and speak with customer relations tomorrow to see if I can't get this resolved.

I haven't seen any posts about the lines issue for a while. Has anyone with a new MBA got a good screen? Or is everyone just living with the problem? Are there any new screen out there now?

    Thanks

I think they are just living with it. I picked up a Week 53 MBA last week in hopes I'd get a good one, but it has the lines still. Both display models at the store (1.6 W50 and 1.8 W43) had the lines. Going to swap it out one last time, but I'm not expecting much.

Unfortunately, I'll still probably accept the lines over the glossy glass cover on the MBP/MB displays, which is horribly reflective.
