nice review though su9400 and su9600 on the 1.4 and 1.6 11" models have 3MB cache not the 6 of the SLs used on the 13" units

Thanks! I'm aware, I was referring to the 13" model as that was the one being shown throughout the video.

is just you referred to the 11.6 a few times within the review (price its lack of an SD card slot etc) then later said "both of these new air models are powered by a core 2 duo processor with a doubled 6 MB of L2 cache" which gives the impression the both refers to 11.6 and the 13.3 IYSWIM

Thanks for the video, im looking forward to mine arriving next week.

I notice you have itch installed on there, how does that run for you?

Thanks

Itch runs fantastic, I have it paired up usually with a VCI during mobile DJ gigs and it's very smooth. The flash memory also loads up songs incredibly quick (in the case you aren't using an external). At home I usually run Ableton, though.

Nice.
About Ableton. Are you using it with your MacBook Air or a more powerful machine?
I use Ableton with a core i3 iMac base model, and most of my projects run at 20% ableton's processor meter. So I'm assuming maybe these same projects would eventualy run on the 11 inch base model consuming like 60%.
Am I far wrong? Or do you think that's gonna happen? Cause if it does, it would resolve my doubts on which one to buy.
Best,

I think you should go in and fix the 320m GPU information that's incorrect. A lot of people are going to be disappointed if they buy an MBA thinking it has a discrete GPU... as it doesn't. It would take you a few minutes to fix, but I think it would make your review much more credible. Otherwise, good work.

Can you talk about how is the speaker on 13.3 inch model? I intend to use this to watch movies and I hope speakers are good. Since you reviewed MBP in the past, I would love to hear how this MBA's speaker compares to MBP's speaker.

I'm pleasantly surprised how good the speaker sound is on the 11.6. I don't use it much for anything sound related(my MBP 17" music studio is a different story), and when out and about, I will always use headphones as I usually do, but when I watch a quick youtube or something, it really does sound amazing compared to other laptops I've used. It has a surprising "surround" effect to it with some content which has had me more than once looking around till I realized it was coming from the laptop and that alone shows the quality. Again, depends on the source, but I'm quite happy with it.

Cheers, ill be using Traktor and Ableton for live gigs. I'm sure it can hold up for sure, although downgrading from a pro, ill have to see how much i can squeeze out of logic. I guess i can always freeze but its not ideal.

Just finished watching it.
Very good review chillafrilla ;)

Thank you very much, i send you a big thank from italy!

i just ordered my 13/1.8/4GB MBA!

Hey chillafrilla,

thanks for a great review. Can say something about the noise level? I'm looking for a machine that's basically silent, at least when sitting (almost) idle. And I mean really silent, not "cannot be heard in an office environment". Any insights ?

Thanks a lot

You're very welcome!

The machine is literally silent, I'm using it now in an environment with no noise whatsoever. The only time you will hear the fans slowly kicking in is during any sort of gaming or rendering, but other than that multitasking web/e-mail/work you shouldn't hear a peep.

Cool, thanks for the info. My father is ready to switch to a Mac for a silent machine. Ordering now ;-)
