These arguments are still popping up?

I've owned an MBA for about a month -- I haven't missed the optical drive at all. (I've only used the external SuperDrive once since I've bought it.) The power is more than adequate for most tasks. I have yet to feel constrained by the machine's limited expansion options.

On the other, more positive, side of the coin, I'm impressed with the world class screen and keyboard, the excellent build quality (although a screw fell out...?), and the thinness and lightness of it. The MBP feels relatively large and heavy in comparison.

I am not surprised at all by the MBA's positive reception at retail :apple:

How did that happen? Which screw and for holding what? We just bought my father the MBA on Wednesday and so I would be very interested in what to look for.

With the machine flipped over, the lost screw is the one holding the bottom casing together in the uppermost right corner. I have never dropped the unit or otherwise abused it.

So does anyone have an opinion as to whether Penryn processors will be added to the air? Also, do people have opinions as to the benefits of getting the SSD or the standard 80gb 4200 rpm drive?

Thanks

I thought that the air did have a penryl? I could be seriously wrong though.

Nope, it's a special micro sized Santa Rosa.

Well i new it was a special micro sized something or other, i just thought that since intel seems smug about penryl and is forcing santa rosa out...

Also aren't the penryl's in general smaller than the santa rosa's? So it would seem easier to make the penryl into something that could fit than the santa rosa. Although i don't make microchips so i guess i wouldn't know would i.

penryl? i thought it was penryn? and the macbook air isn't penryn i don't think..

I was in an independent Apple retailer for maybe 20 minutes and three different people came in to see the MBA.

It seems that the MBA is not only a very interesting product, but also serves to bring people into the store to see the other stuff.

As an aside, that independent Apple retailer has been there for over 20 years. Now an Apple store is coming to town. That is great, but I know that the store will be out of business soon. I just feel bad for them. Nothing can be done about it.

Nope it is a package shrunk Merom... Santa Rosa (while wrong) is the platform not the CPU.

Thats what i thought. When i heard the chip called a santa rosa i just assumed that it was the name of the chip and that i'd just missed something along the line :p

How are you even supposed to pronounce that?

Not necessarily. There's a local Mac store that has been here for a long time now, well before there were any Apple stores, and it continues to stay in business.

its not selling out

my friend is the inventory control specialist at a California Apple store. she definitely had some in store while that tool said she was out. They had their inventory system updated last weekend, and it appears to be fixed it. Now in all of Cali, only one store is sold out.
