When I purchased the MacBook Air a few days ago I noticed the money was pulled from my bank and is processing.

Now that the MacBook Air has shipped "OCT 30th"

The $1,400 is now back in the bank.

Am I still going to be charged? I thought they charge you a little before being shipped or a few hours after but it's been more than a few hours now.

Does anyone know the usual way of when Apple charges you?

    I knew I spoke too soon. :D

I didn't expect I was going to get the MacBook Air for free. But you never know.

I ordered the MacBook Air and cancelled it because I forgot to get the student discount. So I had to wait for the money to go back to the bank. Once it did I re-ordered the MacBook Air right when the money was back in the bank so maybe Apple thought they didn't refund the money once they saw the money pulled again after my second payment on the MacBook Air and they refund the money again when the MacBook Air shipped.

I could only wish but it's very unlikely.

Did you use a debit card? If you did, Apple likely placed a "hold" on the $1400 in order to verify it was there. Once they did that, they shipped the item and then charged you. What's happening is that your bank account was updated to indicate that the hold has been lifted (which is instant) versus the money leaves your account (which can take 1-3 days). It will be gone by Wednesday.

I work at a bank, and we see this stuff all the time.

I remember when the iPhone 4 came out, some guy had received his phone, but his account wasn't charged. He tried to pull a fast one, and closed out his card, and even his whole checking account, even after me telling him that they could still charge his account.

If there is a preauthorization on your card, that merchant can take the money out, pretty much no matter what status your account is in. I've heard of it happening as much as 2 months after an account has been closed.

Somewhat relevant to the conversation, I think.

Definitely. My funds for the iPhone 4 didn't come out of my account until 2 days after I received the phone.

And wow. That guy. A real winner.

Haha, funny story on that guy.

I am going to expect to be charged then.

    I used a check card.

    UPDATE:
