Either laptop model is more than good enough for general internet browsing. I would just choose the cheaper option and save cash for tomorrow.

Many people have trouble using the new thinner keyboard on the MacBook. If you have not tried it, you should. It has a very different feel to it. Some have suggested that the thinner keyboards will appear in new laptops at the next update.

Don-Lucio,
Based on what you described your purpose, I would recommend that you buy which ever one costs less. Based on what you described you can even buy an slightly older machine. Saving money is not a crime and considering that Tim Cook and his crew of executives refuses to pay taxes like any other American he really is not deserving of any more money than you absolutely have to give him. He seems to ignore all the services he and his company receive because he resides in the United States.

Macbook is much better device for web browsing due to its IPS panel and retina display (Macbook Air has lower resolution which means you lose surface and need to scroll when web browsing, it has a poor pixel density, it looks blurred, on the opposite, Retina display provides a much better image quality, pixel density is great, image is crystal clear, IPS panel does have exceptional viewing angle which means you can use your Macbook from any angle/position without losing a loss of contrast and to be truly accurate, IPS does also have richer color, more vivid, more naturel, excellent white balance, Macbook Air screen display is outdated)
Many Macbook Air luvers hold a grudge against this Macbook because its more expensive, because Apple do only offer one unique usb-c port, its clivant machine as the first Macbook Air 2008, remember, it was even more expensive, luxury laptop at that time, no SSD, less connectivity...
In my opinion for only web browsing, this is by far the best of tww
Now its a luxury laptop for only web browsing purpose, i suggest you to pick iPad+BT keyboard instead

Mainly internet browsing. I don't do much photo editing or video editing.
If its light apps, I think the rMB is a better choice given the display. The MBA is no slouch, and I recommend you try both out at an Apple store if you can. You may get a bit better performance out of the MBA over the MB because of the Core i5 vs. Core M. Plus the keyboard mechanism is different so you want to make sure you're good with that.

I'd go with the MacBook if money is not a major consideration.
Lighter and with a much better screen.
Also has a newer trackpad and diffrent keyboard (might be better for you.)

I have an air and I think they are great...but it was almost completely replaced by an iPad for Internet browsing.
