Hey guys my wife’s 2013 MacBook Air will not connect to the wi-fi in our apartment. I have spectrum with their provided router and basic settings. I’ve tried with 5ghz and 2.5ghz..... now here is where it gets weird, the WiFi works fine on my 2017 12” macbook, both our iPhones and her iPad Air. To make matters even weirder the MacBook Air works perfectly fine in our house where we have Verizon Fios. Anything I can do to troubleshoot this? Or am I just missing a setting or something

I added some screenshots of the router settings

*edit* also worth mentioning I did a clean install of High Sierra last night and set the computer up as new but the problem persisted.

You might need to delve deeper into the router settings for the troublesome network. See if anything looks unusual.

Nothing you described sounds like there should be an issue.

What happens, exactly, when you try to join that apartment wifi?

One thought is to make sure that the DHCP pool is large enough on the router. Otherwise, the router will not be able to hand out an IP and other information to the laptop. Depending on the router, look for a setting that says "DHCP" and has a starting and ending number for the pool. Increase the end number to something higher than it is but less that 255.

The network comes up on the list of available networks and i select it, enter the password. The WiFi bars fill up as if I’m connected but when I try to load a webpage or anything I get an error saying I’m not connected to the internet

Thanks I’ll give that a shot tomorrow

Check System Preferences>Network>Advanced [button]>DNS>DNS Servers. Is it the router’s IP address? Whatever it is, remove it and add new DNS servers. Try 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 which are the Google DNS servers.

thanks I'll try that when I get home later

BrianBaughn's suggestion about DNS is worth a shot as well but should not be a problem is you did a clean installation of Mac OS and then didn't make any changes. After you did the clean installation, did you install ANYTHING on the Mac or change any settings? In particular, did you install any security or antivirus software?

I didn’t install anything except the usual apps. Chrome, office 2016, firefox, VLC

So looks like the issue was related to ipv6 vs ipv4.... I’m not very well versed but the network settings on the MBA was assigning an ipv4 address automatically, the genius had me switch that to manual so it won’t assign one and instead use ipv6.... I hope I explained that well enough in case someone has this issue in the future
