For me 14" was to small and 16" is to big sadly I'm eyeballing a MBA 15" i would prefer a MBP but the size thing i cant get past. Its like they took the perfect size laptop and gave it to the AIR
I really miss actual reviews, like the ones Anandtech used to do, after using the device for more than 10 minutes, including deep down analysis of the silicon, etc.
These are not more than brief hands-on if not pure superficial bullet-list cheerleaders running against the embargo timer.
This was my exact situation, so happy to see someone else excited about thisThe M3 MacBook Air is everything to enterprise IT departments.
We have approximately 5000 Macs in our fleet. The fact that up to 70% of these Macs intended for non-developers and non-power users can now eventually be a $1200 M3 MacBook Air, instead of a $2000+ 14" MacBook Pro, is huge and keeps the Mac ecosystem more in line with our costs on our standard Dell Latitudes -- still more money upfront sure, but not "twice as much" money. And where the Dells last 3 years tops, we run the Macs for up to 5, lowering TCO below Windows.
Why did we go with Pros before? Dual displays is non-negotiable when there's 11,000 desks each with 2 displays to light up.
We ordered 400 of these already to refresh employees on rapidly aging Intel hardware.
I've used JAMF for around 15 years. Looking at moving to Kandji. JAMF just isn't the company it used to be.Good to know, thanks for your insight here! We are expecting many more MacBooks in our environment by the end of this year so I'll definitely look into getting Jamf for our enterprise.
The 16/512 model comes standard with the 10-core GPU. That model is in the sweet spot IMO. Best part is that it is a model stocked in stores. Why did you show benchmarks for the 10-core GPU version? Since this isn’t a pro model I guess most people will go for the entry-level configuration
I agree, big reviewers have been unreliable for some time. That's why I normally try to find smaller reviewers who are trying to differentiate themselves by having substance
It's just me or iJustine and the rest of the clown band are getting more and more irritating?
I haven't watched a lot of Mac related videos over the last decade but holy bananas the last few days of watching Mac youtube videos has been awful. So much clickbait ("MAKE SURE YOU DON'T MAKE THIS MISTAKE", "I RETURNED MY MAC HERE IS WHY!", "THE TRUTH ABOUT MACBOOKS - YOU'LL BE SHOCKED!", "DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS", etc).
I've been trying to find useful information but it's like wading through **** trying to find any useful information.
It’s a good thing nobody’s asking you to watch them, then… they’ll still be making their money with or without you.Yep. Feel the vomit in my mouth even seeing the YouTube video thumbnails. Honestly, you couldn’t pay me to click them.
I hate it - Refuse to watch them and can't stand how these types of "OMG!!" thumbnails have just completely polluted everything about YouTube
Dave2D and Quinn are the same BS you’ve mentioned previously, sadly.I remember when I lost respect for and stopped watching two famous Youtubers - MKBHD and JerryRigEverything.
In the case of Zack, I was in the process of replacing my iPhone 6 and I spent a couple of months prior to Sept 2018 looking at what to buy. I was watching videos, reading this forum as well as other websites and after two months of contemplation, I decided on the XR. After I had made my decision and just before buying the XR, I watched a JerryRig video where he advised viewers to buy a "real phone" instead of the XR. I bought the XR anyway and after seeing what a great phone it was, I lost all respect for that channel. I thought to myself how devoid of value watching his videos was to me when I did thorough examination of Apple's offering at the time and reached the opposite conclusion of that guy, and then proceeded to experience for the next four years of ownership just how correct I was in choosing the XR. And here is this Youtuber just randomly saying something because I guess he thinks his viewers will appreciate that particular stance. The way I see it, that guy takes shots at easy targets, like snapping a shiny iPhone in half, because it will get views. Unless you want to know how long you can hold your lighter against the screen of your thousand-dollar phone (as we all do, I guess), I don't see any value there. If I took stock of what JerryRig says, I would have missed out on a great device that still serves me today.
In the case of MKBHD, I remember there was one of those Pixel phones he likes, don't remember which as this was several years ago. He is famous for prefering stock Android and the Pixel is notoriously his pick so he did a review and, to the surprise of no one, that Pixel phone was praised. All well and good. Then half a year passes and the guy does a Q&A and someone actually decided to ask him about screen issues with that phone. So there's the first warning sign, the issue was apparently so widespread that someone decided to directly ask him about it. To his credit, he took the question and answered honestly, but the answer was very discouraging and disappointing. He said he had had the same issue (I don't remember what it was, lines on the screen, tint or something) and he returned or replaced the phone. So just think on this - the guy is the biggest Youtuber out there, big enough to get a 1-on-1 interview with Federighi, has a dozen million views per video or whatever, he goes on to praise an expensive device and then neglects to correct his review when the device turns out to be low-quality garbage. And it's not like the phone died after two years or something, this was after a few months, before the new one dropped. I mean, come on. There should at least be some semblance of moral responsibility when you influence the decision making of so many people. I saw that Q&A and unsubscribed immediately.
These guys aren't reviewers, they are influencers/tech celebrities and, for the most part, what they say is worthless to me. I don't mean to suggest these guys are worthless because I'm sure they put in a lot of effort into making these videos, there's other people involved, they have employees and expenses and all that so credit in that department, I'm not belittling the effort. I just cannot help but question their honesty and integrity and, at the end of the day, will never again decide to put stock into anything they say.
I don't think much of Justine either in terms of actual objective worth / honesty, but at least she doesn't even attempt to hide that she's an Apple fangirl so fair play to her. I don't see her pretending to be an unbiased reviewer, unlike for example Linus who sinks about as low as you can in the tech world.
I like to watch Dave2D, Quinn Nelson and Flossy. If anyone has something against these guys, I'm all ears. Don't wanna watch sell-outs.
Dave2D and Quinn are the same BS you’ve mentioned previously, sadly.
I mean, Dave was literally trying to convince his viewers that 8GB on a laptop that costs over $1000 is perfectly fine if you want it to last 6 years without any noticeable change in performance.

It's like they aren't tethered to reality at all.8GB is sufficient for 6+ years for most users. I've got a 2014 MacBook Air with 4GB and it still runs decently today. The degradation in performance mostly comes from the SSD wearing out.

To me this is the major disapointment. I run 3 27" 2k screens out of my HP Zbook fury G8. Tried 2 4k but dont like the placement on my desk. The 2 monitor support is really awesome. I have an M2 13" and only need single monitor support at the moment because my desk will not accommodate 2. But this is a reason for me to upgrade when that changes in the future.
I stopped solely looking at Geekbench scores years ago... I had a few devices and the real life performance just started having less and less correspondence to the Geekbench scores. Even less so on a device like an iPhone... where for the most part it is practically meaningless for most consumers.Ah, Geekbench. Useless numbers that don't really mean anything to anyone. As with the specs of most products they don't mean much until you get in the drivers' seat and get a feel for it. An export time of a 5 minute 4k clip from Final Cut or the time spent converting a 100k+ polygon mesh in Fusion into Brep would be more useful as a benchmark.
Of course they could use other benchmarks, but on the other hand not all that many use FC or Fusion, so by themselves those aren't useful to most of the market.Ah, Geekbench. CR listed the EV Battery issues and Powertrain issues separately. With 100% battery recall, I'm not sure how that rating (1 / 5 over three model years) is considered "iffy". Seems accurate to me.Even consumer reports can be iffy though.
My Ford Fiesta (with a dual clutch transmission) that cost Ford something like 4 billion with a "B" dollars, initially got a green check for reliability, and my Bolt EV gets a red down-check for reliability because 100% of the cars had a battery recall, which is part of the drivetrain, and they treat it the same as if every car needs a new engine.
you should replace that PC on June, for the new M3 Ultra Mac Studio.excited to get mine tomorrow. got the 15" with 16/512GB. this is a secondary machine for me. all my heavy stuff (gaming, workloads, etc) will be done on my 16c32t/64GB/RTX4080 pc.
my Air will compliment my PC for looking stuff up/watching YouTube when at my PC. yes my PC is more than powerful enough to handle the multi tasking but i HATE switching between stuff and I don't want to buy a second monitor plus I just don't have the space for another 27" monitor. it will also be used for around the house (mostly in bed when i can't be bothered using my OLED tv to watch something or using my iPhone). I had an iPad Pro a while back but i really can't deal with touch screens for doing more than simple basics and iPadOS doesn't make much use of the hardware. The 15" is a whole 4" bigger for movies...not a huge difference but it's something. Also, If I'm travelling I'd rather have a laptop than an iPad.
The last time I owned a Mac was in 2012. the late 2008 unibody MacBook was my only computer between 2008-2012 and i absolutely loved it. I did buy an Air after it died but returned it (won't get into why). Since then I've been on Windows and while I can't live without Windows I have been longing to return to Mac.
I was debating if I should've got 24GB but I realised MacOS seems to be more optimised and I am not going to be gaming on it. Even though I have 64GB in my PC i have never seen above 25GB RAM when gaming. For photo/video editing I think 16GB will be perfectly fine for me.
Are these "content creators" actually aware how farcical their infomercials have become?
