macbook airport problem

hi there, im having problems with my airport, at first the network signal is at full but once i joined it,it says im connected but the signal strength grays out (zero) it is like im connected but im really not. It is also the same when i create my own computer to computer network, im connected to my own network but has no signal. any help would be much appreciated
