Have seen many promising views regarding this camcorder. Have also read that many people have had problems getting their MacBooks to recognize. Has anyone been successful with this camcorder and the MacBook in syncing?

Don't see any reason why it wouldn't it uses Mini-DV, and connects via FireWire, should work just fine.
