The "mouse" button underneath the trackpad on my MacBook (non-pro) has recently started acting up. It's entirely functional, but the mechanics of pressing it have really gone nuts.

If you press it at the very top, it's slightly more of a push to depress it, and sometimes makes a loud click. If you press it at the very bottom, it's completely silent, depresses slowly and very shallowly - as in, you only have to depress it about 3/4 of a mm for it to register a click.

I'm selling the bloody thing soon, and I haven't had it 3 weeks. Any idea how I can sort it out? I'm in the UK and ordered online, so there's no Apple Store or reseller who will provide me with any guarenteed support or anything.

Any ideas? 🙁

Yeah, but it's not the sort of thing that they'll want me to sort out myself, I'll end up having to send the frigging thing back. I'm thinking maybe a crumb or something is stuck under there, and if there was a way I could clean it out.

It just means I have to cancel my eBay auction and wait for it to be fixed. Maybe the buyer won't pick up on it, in fact I managed to find a few threads around the net with people mentioning probs like this, some having it upon arrival.

That said, it's getting louder and sharper by the minute, and just using it now is driving me mental.

I guess there's no non-invasive way to clean out the underside of the trackpad button? Mabye I could work it in?
