    Hi

My MacBook's case has decided to split off from the front on the right hand side of the trackpad. I've done some searching, and this appears to be a common problem.

I bought the laptop this year at John Lewis (UK). Didn't take AppleCare. I think I will now though!

Can John Lewis give me a replacement?

    Any advice? Thanks.

If bought it this year it should still be under the one-year AppleCare protection that comes with Apple laptops. Call up AppleCare and they should (hopefully) get you taken care of. :)

Thanks - in your opinion, do you think the shop I bought it from (John Lewis) will replace it for a new model?

    Thanks:)

It wouldn't hurt to ask. Some stores can be very generous in their returns, others can be real jerks - I don't really know what the reputation of John Lewis is.

It's a pretty high end store with a huge reputation. Now I think about it, they replaced a year and a half old Powerbook (12in) of mine for a brand new one with a faster processor as it developed a few dead pixels.

May I know how you managed to get such peeling?

It does seem quite frustrating with the quality of apple's stuff of late.

I'm going to use those links to get myself a free repair! :D :D

Apparently, most people think it's due to the magnet that closes the display lid. They think it's too strong and is now pulling the casing out.
