MacBook display problems?

Hi my friends macbook 2006 2ghz core duo macbook has started developing problems whilst watching Netflix... Before it was fine but now the image has started breaking up. I thought it was a flash error but sorting that it hasn't improved. They are also saying that purplish fuzzy colours and black lines come up occasionally.
This to me sounds GPU failure like the Mbp... Anyone have any suggestions of things I could do to try solve it?
