Has anybody purchased a new macbook or other apple hardware from an ebay seller? It seems as though there are decent deals to be had with the rebates, but I'm skeptical about the purchase - which I know means that I shouldn't. But, any horror stories? Is it really as advertised? Is it eligible for AppleCare?

This doesn't answer your question directly, but I have purchased Applecare for both my iPod touch and Macbook. I also bought MobileMe on ebay. I got the iPod touch Applecare for $15 and the Applecare for the Macbook for $110. I bought MobileMe for $34.

I always look at the customer comments on that person and go from there. I don't know if I would buy a Macbook on ebay though.

I'm in the same boat as you. I placed a few bids, never won. On the other some sellers have up the prices because of the Live rebate. So I would spend money on a refurb instead of an 'unkown'. Just deal with a powerseller who only sell Macs.
