Hey, I just bought a new macbook recently, and would like to buy a 3rd party hard drive for it. I'm looking at a 160GB drive. Any recommendations?

Also, would I be able to remove the hard drive after fitting it in? From what I read in the manual, the Macbook Hard drive has some thing on it so that you could pull it out. Is it present on 3rd party hard drives?

    Thanks in advance

I have a Seagate drive, and it works fine for me.

The pull-out thing is a screw-on sled. I think you need a Torx 10 screwdriver to take it off the internal drive.

In other words, without the pull out tab, I would not be able to remove the new hard drive?

Pretty much. But you can unscrew it from the old one and put it on the new one, yes? (I don't remember.. it's been a while since I looked inside my MacBook)

The Macbook Hard drive has a screwed on carrier try on it so that you could pull it out and you take it off the old HD and put it on the new HD.

Check out the photos on http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/MacBook/Hard-Drive/86/4 You will see what I'm writing about.

To do the upgrade, you will need a #00 Phillips Screwdriver and a T8 Torx Screwdriver.

For hard drive recommendation, I bought This Seagate and am quite pleased.
