My macbook's hard drive crashed and will not boot, I would like to get my information off of it. I do have a usb adapter that lets me plug it into a computer. Will the hard drive be accessible from a mac or windows pc, do I need a program to access the information or is it just plug and play.

If the hard drive is toast, then you're not likely to get anything off of it.

You'll need a firewire cable, and to put the Mac in Target Mode. On a PC, you'd need to purchase and install MacDrive in order to even see the drive. Or, plug it into a Mac and the HD should mount on the desktop. Assuming the HD isn't toast.

You should be starting with your Mac OS X Installation DVD and trying to "Repair Disk".
