MacBook HD Upgraders, Best SATA Enclosure?

Did anybody upgrade their stock HD in their MacBook and put the original in an enclosure to use as an external? What enclosure is best at a good price. Do USB enclosures need a power supply?

Also, where did you find a good price on an upgraded drive. Thanks

I did exactly what you are looking to do. I purchased this enclosure from newegg.com (as well as the 160gb drive I upgraded to):

Works great. Doesn't require external power source (but does has option for).

Expensive, but very high quality, runs cool, supports USB 2.0, Firewire 400 and 800 (and they ship all three cables you need). It feels incredibly solid, and the entire bottom is a big giant heatsink which keeps it cool.


The FW800 support is probably more interesting for C2D MBP owners.

A little bit expensive but stands up and dissipates heat. Has no fan of any sort however. Supports eSata too
