Hello all,

I love and adore my rMB. There is an unfortunate thing though... one of the keys (based on position, D) leaves a line on the screen. It's not really a scratch, because I can clean it off, but it happens every time I close it. I don't put anything on top of the laptop.

I guess Apple Store visit is in order, but has anybody experienced it? My keyboard has no issues, no stuck keys, no double characters, etc. It's just this. I didn't manage to take a photo because I'd need extreme close-up, at which point you can mostly see a reflection of my phone. The keyboard is clean (did it yesterday). So just wondering if anybody else experienced this, and if yes, what have you had done about it? I'd be quite pissed off if Apple Store left me without a laptop for two weeks and replaced entire keyboard...

I use a product called Clean screen microfiber cloth. It serves as a protector between your keyboard and the display when you close the laptop. You can also use the cloth to clean the display. But it's soft and thin enough to serve its purpose from having the keyboard scratching the display when closed. Highly recommend it. It also will come in different sizes to fit accordingly to the laptop.

I've read opinions about those ranging from "godsend" to "will destroy your Macbook, life, family and career" with not much inbetween... and I don't know which is true, of course. Do you use it with a rMB specifically, and if yes, how long?

Thanks!

I have been using an insert since my day one purchase. I've never heard or read anything negative based off my usage. I encourage you to read the reviews if you're hesitant. My opinion, I would never use another laptop without having this insert between the display and keyboard. That's how much I trust the product.

it also happens on all MacBook Air that i have owned.
when you purchased it, it probably came with a thin sheet of tissue like paper.
i have often used that for the 1st 24 hours of ownership, but end up throwing it away.
the good news is that if you really do not put any weight on the top cover it doesn't appear to ever result in an actual scratch. but i did have permanent marks left by the keyboard on some of my Airs, and it was due (probably) to poor care by me.
