MacBook Keyboard - no "#" key?

Odd problem, I need to imput a serial number (so no copy/paste) and the given serial number oddly has a '#' in it. Yet, I cannot find this on my MacBook - does it exist or am I being daft?

On a U.S. English keyboard, it's Shift-3. Do you have some other type of keyboard?

Try alt-3 – it does the trick on my UK keyboard.
