This is what i want to see:

MacBook Pro 15.4"
1680x1050 screen resolution
Santa Rosa
LED backlit screens
Case redesign (to include some of the MacBook's innovations - magnets instead of a latch for the screen, user replacable hard drive, feet that don't fall off etc.)

MacBook 13.3"
1440x900 screen resolution
Non-intergrated graphics
Backlit keyboard

Ultra Portable
12" or 13" screen (I mean one or the other, not both)
1280x800 screen resolution
Included but external Super Drive

The problem there is that most laptops in the MacBook's price range and target don't traditionally include dedicated graphics (the most comparable model, for example, the Sony C series, generally only uses Intel GMA950)

No backlit keyboard on the MacBook. Or discrete graphics card. The next-gen Intel graphics accelerator will be plenty fast for that machine. Agree with you about the case redesign, though. Would love to see a "MacBook-like" MBP. Only time will tell. . .

For a start, how do you scroll on a TrackNipple? And they're a nightmare to use when you're moving (e.g. in a car or train).

You can configure the middle button + the trackpoint to scroll. As far as being a nightmare while in motion...I find the opposite to be true. Much easier to use while being thrown around.

The trackpad is a nightmare while in motion AND while stationary. ;)

Update tomorow?

As I can read on diverse sources , Apple may update theirs MBP tomorow!
I just can wait for that!
So , For hardware, what do you expect?
Particulary for graphic cards (where apple sucks...)
Can someones make a list?

Nvidia 8600?
X1800?

:D

Dunno how much weight it adds to the rumour ...

... But the ship date for my MacBook order has been bumped from 11th to the 16th.

I'm going to be interested to see what's in the box when it arrives ...

Cheers!

Jim

(Frustrated at the delay, but kind of excited at the idea that I may get something spankier than I ordered ...)

A good indicator :)

There actually *must* be an upgrade coming very soon, because the laptop lines have been left unchanged for almost 7 months. It's forever.

I guess that's why some manufacturers (was it IBM?) offered both a trackpad and trackpoint. That'll keep both of us happy:)

I can't see Apple adopting the trackpoint as they've used the trackpad for so long. Weren't Apple one of the first adopters?

another question...
Will orders of the new MBP be aivailable tonight at 0 am for order?
Or so?
any informations about past releases?

If there are any upgrades which I highly doubt that there will be they will probably be put up at some point during the night here in California, I don't rememner what time previous silent upgrades have been put up.

Anyone know how long it takes after the release of a new model for it to be available in Apple stores? Is it immediately? I need to pay in store because I need to split it between two credit cards, and if I take all the time to go down to the apple store I would LIKE to come home with a Mac :)

as in tomorrow hopefully :) I'd like some iMacs with that ;)

Just incase i havnt mentioned it already, im desperate for a new imac. ive learnt never to be optimistic thoguh when it comes to updated hardware, ive been waiting since february 06 for the touchscreen ipod.

if they aint, they wont be good-sellers...... I predict (a total random prediction) 1500 can$ max

Ha! Yeah right! They will be at least $2000 - $2500 ($2212 - $2765 Canadian).
And they will still sell well.

Optical or not?

How about BOTH.

Jeez, I have seen so many laptops that have an internal, BUT removable optical drive. Then you can put an extra battery in that space instead if you want longer battery life, or you can leave the drive in if you feel you will need to burn a disc.

That way no extra cables to carry around, problem solved.

Plus, it lets Apple have more configuration options for customers,
no drive, no battery
dvd drive and battery
blu-ray or hd and battery
etc..

I would love to get something that had great battery life, full 802.11n (I know its a draft so far), usb 2.0 and fw800 ( for uploading digital video or pics on the go), but only weight a couple of pounds.

Plus, it makes the laptop clumsy because of how it must be built. I have also seen such toys, but IMO the more streamlined the design the better.

Currently, the Macbook Pro is very simple and elegant. Design-wise, close to the only thing to be done is adding the magnetic latch thus eliminating few stupid holes from the case.

Anything you can remove from the case will eventually break.
