The 13" MBA is not slow for video editing, only for exporting/rendering of your finished project, which can occur while you're away from the computer (sleeping, for instance).

This is according to several people who are actually doing video editing, even with Final Cut Pro, on their MBA. I've been asking them about it on the following threads:

Be careful of people (including Apple Store employees) who give you opinions on this matter without trying it themselves. Most of the time you spend at the computer when editing video is apparently not very taxing on the CPU, and the Air's SSD makes it peppy. Only the final export is processor-intensive, and the computer can do that by itself overnight.

Oops! Sorry. Yea this is what I meant. If you are okay with letting your computer run for several hours overnight or whatever then yea it will be fine.

If you want more performance - get a MBP
If you want cheaper and don't need as much performance - get a MB
If you want portability and are willing to pay for it, and don't need performance - get a MBA

This is the simplest and truest decision list I've ever seen. OP, follow these 3 sentences, and you're set to make a decision.

just buy the pro.. im doing the same too! at first i wanted it NOW, then i was like, no. i want SB and LP and longer battery,
however, this was for the 13". i have now decided to get the 15" nad waiting for my apple buddy to email me back his quote!

now to answer your question in somewhat detail:
*ehem*

You can wait, but you just have to realize that the moment you buy the new MBP, apple will come out with a new one. the thing about buying new products right when they are released is the risk of getting a product that sucks in comparison to last year. i mean, if you buy now, you have the word of many great reviewers, engadget, etc. if you wait for the new model, you may realize that maybe, just maybe the last year model was better and so on. there could also be hardware problems and things like that.

apple generally doesnt have this happen, but once again risk factor
