I just recently noticed that my HD is using 235.81 GB.
I've been looking at my folders, apps, and various files, but the math doesn't make sense. Things aren't adding up to 235.81. The figures I'm getting are more like 80-100 GB NOT 200+ (yes I converted MB to GB properly). Here's what REALLY confuses me: according to the "Get info" window, the main account folder uses 140 GB of memory, but when I get the info on all of the folders within the main account folder, the memory usage is about 70 GB.

Does anyone have any idea as to where all that memory is being stored??

To find out, where you hard drive capacity is being used, you can use the following free applications:
Maybe try a combination of several, if you still can't find the "missing" capacity.

Btw, "memory" is not the same as "hard drive capacity":
It is recommended, to have 10 to 20 % of the HDD's capacity unused.

Do you have FileVault enabled or use Mac OS X 10.7 Lion + Time Machine?

This often happens after a user account has been deleted, the data is still there but how to access it has been destroyed. The only way to fix this problem is to clean install mac os (i think)
