I have a mid 2019 MacBook Air 128gb 8gb ram on Intel, I only use it about six times a whole year. I use it because I had an old scanner that did not have drivers for the Mac OS X on my current Mac mini but is supported on the 2019 MacBook Air. I have not purchased a new scanner that is supported on my current Mac mini. So mid 2019 MacBook Air: only for when I travel and need a computer to fill out online forms.

I read about the MacBook Neo, yes I'm out of the loop. It's new and currently supported in OS X updates, online the mid 2019 MacBook Air. I can get $125 trade in value for the air if I go through Apple and purchase the Neo. Is there a big difference in performance?

Educational discount is $599 for the 512gb MacBook Neo.

Is it worth the upgrade, especially the mid 2019 MacBook Air is consider end of life for Apple OS X updates and support?

If you don't use the Macbook Air much and only for scanning, then you should continue using it.

Wife has a 2019 16" MBP that is now so sluggish, spinning beach balls, fans screaming, runs hot and battery life sucks.

She is getting a Neo as a gift to replace this weekend (Mother's Day).

What scanner do you have❓ You may want to consider this:

Lou
It was one of these HP DeskJet all in one 6510 or something, really old. I just bout a canon scanner and replaced it, way faster and better dpi.

Since I purchased the new scanner, the MacBook Air is mainly used for filling out forms when I’m on vacation and occasional pages/numbers when I need to record data that’s away from the Mac mini and it’s easier to have the air there instead of walking back and forth to record it on the mini. Last heavy usage was a 3 hour proctored online exam on Google Chrome. I had to keep the air plugged in to keep it from lagging.

Yes. You should upgrade and Neo is a good opportunity to do so and you should definitely go for the 512GB. I have base model MacBook Air and I have 300MB currently available. I deleted so many apps, messages, documents, emptied downloads folder and System Data is taking up 169GB. What it is? I don't really know. Looks like macOS 27 will be getting a clean install, since I read that System Data can contain older versions of macOS versions etc and I've upgraded since Big Sur.
